Architecture in San Francisco-Do You Have a Favorite?

By
Real Estate Agent with Compass CA DRE# 01215160

San Francisco is known for its eclectic architecture styles in homes. In addition to grand Queen Anne Victorians, more simple Edwardian houses, and Italianate style Victorian homes like these pictured here, you'll find mid-century modern, and truly modern homes.

These four appear to be duplexes or TICs, all in the same half-block on a Pacific Heights neighborhood street.

If one of these was your house, which paint color would you choose?

Lottie,

Personally, I am not fond of any of these colors.  What I do know, is that they work in the SF environment, and if I were to consult someone on colors, I would include the ones you chose above.  A

I love the architecture in San Francisco - it reminds me so much of the Boston area and Cambridge where I spent so many years. The home on the top right looks very much like the one we lived in for a couple of years in Somerville on the Cambridge line.

I love the Victorian style, and different shades of blue would be the hands down winner.  Gorgeous!

House colors that work are definitely defined by the locations. Santa Barbara's beautiful colors wouldn't work in most places in San Francisco (Sea Cliff might be the exception) but are fabulous in your area, Ron and Alexandra Seigel

Every house is unique here in San Francisco, Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, Broker, Tacoma Washington

The dark grey/black works, amazingly enough, Bob Ratliff - all 4 of these houses were probably built at the same time, by the same builder, same style - but they have changed over the years.

Hi Jeff Dowler CRS and Endre Barath, Jr.  would you be surprised to learn that Boston is another of my favorite cities? (Probably not.) Picture #2, and variations on it, is quite common here.

Good evening, Dana Tapia & Lisa Pigott - you picked Jeff and Endre's favorite!

Or the second restaurant which he was also the executive Chef of in Boston on Newbury Street Tapeo??? Endre

p.s.: Diane's cousin's Husband and Son are Lt & CPT of the Somerville Fire Department.... small world:))))

Aloha Lottie, I'm the type of person that would have a least 5 colors incorporated into the exterior paint scheme, so the upper right would be my choice.

Hi Kimo Stowell - you must enjoy the houses here--some are beautifully painted, others are simply dramatic and showstoppers. What do you think of this one?

Hi Lottie - far and away I would choose the upper right hand home.  The scent colors are appealing.
