Yesterday was our little Bichon Poo Barney's 'spa day' at the groomers. We decided to drop him off a little early as he likes to play with the other little dogs in the doggy day care center. Usually he gets scared and doesn't want us to leave him but yesterday he saw the other dogs and wanted to go play right away. There was none of his - MOM why are you leaving me here look??????
We had planned to leave him there until about 5:00 as we both had very busy afternoons. About 12:15 I got a phone call from the owner saying I need to come and pick Barney up as there had been a fire in the store next door and the dog spa was full of smoke. Thankfully I had just got out of a meeting and rushed over to pick up our little guy.
The entire street was blocked off so I had to find a back way into the shop. There were a lot of fire trucks and police cars plus there was lot of water in the parking lot. Yikes this was a bigger deal than I imagined. I was able to get to the store, pick up Barney quickly and get on our way. The poor owner was beside herself trying to get all the dogs picked up quickly. What a mess.
We didn't notice until later that he was acting a bit sluggish and didn't want to be petted anywhere near his neck. He also didn't want treats - never a good sign. We figured he had gotten picked up quickly by a caring person to make sure he was safely away from fire and smoke and in the process got bruised. He's still sluggish today and we're hoping by tomorrow he's back to his happy little boy in a dog suit self. I'm heading out now and I'm going to see if he wants to come with me. He LOVES going anywhere in the car. If he does I'll feel a lot more relieved. If he's not a lot better tomorrow we'll take him to a place he hates going too - the vet. Nothing ever good goes on there and he knows that by heart.
