It’s that time of year again a chance to save money before school starts!! Don’t forget it’s this weekend!!
The Legislature sets the date for the official sales tax weekend holiday. This year your shopping spree is planned for August 5-7th, 2016! The tradition of exempting most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales and use taxes is continued. This amounts to savings of about $8 to shoppers on every $100 they spend.
Check the official website from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts for the criteria outlined for exemptions. Please read the fine print on all items concerning this tax-saving event.
If you’re buying online, by telephone or mail all sales of qualifying items apply during the sales tax holiday. Lay-away plans can be used again this year to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.
