The Old Abe State Trail a Chippewa Valley favorite
The Old Abe State Trail is one of my favorites in Wisconsin, for many reasons.
The first reason is that it is very close to our Cadott office of Woodland Management Service.
The second reason is the many spectacular views along the Chippewa River as you travel between two state parks in Chippewa County Wisconsin.
It is a conduit between the Chippewa River Trails system and the large Ice Age Trail that travels from the Southeast corner of Wisconsin to The Northwest Corner of the State.
This trail is named after one of Chippewa County’s famous war heroes, an eagle that traveled with the Wisconsin troops during the Civil war.
The trail is 20 miles long so far and is expected to expand further south in the near future so that it can connect with the Chippewa River Trail in Eau Claire.
Summer time activities include Hiking, Horseback riding, Bicycling,
In the fall hunting is allowed along the trail, and ample game can be found throughout this area.
In the winter, Snowmobiles will dominate the trail with connections to several county snowmobile trails, and of course snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and skijoring.
Enjoy the trail and when you are in need of a good forester, remember when only the best will do, call on the WMS Crew!
