The Best Wife in the World: Dolores B. Kelley
ActiveRain Ambassador Debbie Reynolds has asked blogger members to post up to ten blogs before Thanksgiving expressing our gratitude for our joys and blessings. I am very thankful to have the best wife in the world. Dolores has been a special blessing in my life.
In a comment on a previous blog post, Debe Maxwell, CRS asked me how I met Dolores so I will share that story. I was very active in the Cradock Lions Club and was with the members on a bus trip to visit another club for an oyster roast. During the trip, my seatmate told me that I should meet one of his neighbors. He set up the date. I learned later that she was confused and thought she would be seeing another person with the same first name.
Dolores and I attended Cradock High School in Portsmouth, Virginia but we were in different classes and did not know each other. I had been away at the University of Virginia and was very busy with my real estate business and she had gone to William and Mary College and was working at a retail store in Norfolk. The first date led to many dates and we were engaged on St. Patrick's Day and our wedding was in June.
In those days, I was active in the management of garden apartment communities and home was a beautifully decorated apartment above the model in one of the new developments. That became our first home.
Dolores and I have been married for over 53 years.
