Facebook Fridays - How Important Is Your Cover Photo?

~ Facebook Marketing Tips ~

The very first thing new visitors will notice when they visit your Facebook Business Page is the cover photo (sometimes called the banner). It should positively reflect your business and provide important information you want consumers to know.

The key dimensions are 820 pixels (px) wide by 312 px high for desktop viewing and 640 px wide by 360 px high for mobile devices. Anything less and FB will stretch the photos to meet those dimensions...you do not want that (i.e. blurry images). My cover photo is due for a change, how about yours?

Did you know...there are over 2.3 billion FB users around the world!

I have been asked several times recently how to get new likes. I tell peeps to focus on putting out quality information without being spammy and the adoration will follow. It also helps to genuinely engage on other people's content as well as responding to consumer comments on your page. High vanity numbers do not make the phone ring! The information you provide and interactions you have are what brings in new prospects.

Hi Anita!  You mention that Vanity numbers don’t make the phone ring – and I assume you mean with regards to Facebook marketing.  Totally agree in that context – I would always suggest to businesses that use Vanity numbers as part of their branding to go with a medium such as a billboard, vehicle wrap or radio/TV ad. We’ve got a lot of research that says a good Vanity number marketed in the right channel can make your phone ring 30% more.  Love your marketing tips by the way.

Anita Clark  Was just on YouTube trying to learn about using Pixels. Are you using them in your ads?  Actually, they seem to be a must and I have not gotten a hang of just how to install them yet

I make mine so that the main important message and phone number are not covered up by my profile pic and other stuff that they might see when they come to my page

Sure Diana. I just go into microsoft publisher and put in all my photos logo text and when complete I copy cut with my snipping tool and upload into facebook and look at it in both desktop and mobile versions.


If key parts are covered up by something like my profile picture, I'll just move things around snip it and upload again until I am happy with it. Because I am trying to eliminate wasted space, it also allows me to make my font as big and readable as possible as well. This one I used one of those background removal tools and it works good except the right side of my face is a bit messed up. But I'm happy with it and it gets peoples attention and conveys a clear trustworthy referral seed planting message.

Anita, we tend to change our cover photo with the seasons but, your post makes me think we should do it more frequently. There's always a fresh new picture to be added. I used to forget to take pictures when I was out and about but, it has become a habit. An eye-catching local photo always gets attention. Hope you're having a great weekend!

Go for it Diana. If you are familiar with Canva, you can create a professional looking new cover photo for free in about 5 minutes.

Amanda: I saw one last year (wish I could remember it) that changed theirs a couple of times a month with an obscure photo of a location from their area. The first person to guess where it was got a prize. I haven't tried that but thought it was an interesting way to keep engagement up.
