Thankful Thursdays...For the Changing Seasons

For the last 30 or so years, Larry and I have lived in South Florida. Rarely did it get cold enough for a coat and the only leaves falling were large palm fronds.

So many of the people I met missed the change in seasons when they lived or springvisited Delray Beach. Oh once in a while during the Christmas season when I watched a holiday movie or saw the news showing Christmas shoppers in the snow, I thought it would be nice to have a bit of a change.

Now that we’re back in Houston where there is somewhat of a change in seasons I have actually learned to appreciate it. This past spring it was fun seeing pops of color as trees came alive with leaves and small flowers showed up on bushes.

And now that we are morphing from Fall to Winter and the leaves have fallen I get to see...high in the trees....the nests of squirrels. Under large oak trees, the ground is littered with acorns.

Just a few weeks ago on our morning walk, the sun was shining through the trees and we walked through a beautiful arch of reds and oranges.

While I do miss the tropical temps of Delray Beach, I am grateful for the beauty that comes with the changing seasons.

I sure do appreciate you sharing the beautiful weather with us. It was downright cold in our foothills today. I hope you had a great day.

I love Spring and Fall. Not a fan of hot humid summers or cold winter so spending winters in Arizona is perfect. It can still get chilly but no snow at least not in  area that I am staying. Did get hail though about a week ago.

Hi Kathy Streib - I am 100% with you.  I love having defined seasons and I am glad there is little to no humidity which helps keep the winter and summer months milder in "feels like" temps.

Our temps here in Sacramento have significantly dipped the last several days.  We were experiencing mid 70s up until about two weeks ago.  But, rains have finally arrived, and daytime temps are in the mid 50s.

I love defined seasons too. We have them here too. In fact, I keep hoping for some snow. Weird, aren't I?  Lol.

Hi Kathy,
One of the reasons I moved to Wenatchee was for the four seasons. The older I get the less I like the cold temperatures but I do still love the beauty of the snow.  I've found a happy medium. I like to stay home through the holidays then escape to warmer climates for a few weeks.   Merry Christmas!

Hi Wayne Martin I really can't complain because our weather is a lot like Orlando's.

Michael Jacobs Larry and I are getting used to cooler weather but clearly you couldn't call it cold.

Donald Urschalitz I really do miss Atlantic Avenue and the beach.

Barbara Todaro rarely as in almost never. Before we moved to Northern VA in 2004, I could count on one hand the number of times I'd seen snow and usually not enough to build a snowman.

Brian England as much as you enjoy hiking, I'd bet that you love paths.

Grant Schneider hurricane season really isn't that bad. August is probably the hottest month.

Nina Hollander Here in Houston, January and February can be gray, windy and cold.

Kat Palmiotti you've got my vote!!!!  The snowbirds have the right idea.

Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR this up and down in temps can be hard. I think we had a 30 degree drop the other day. And yes, it is so much fun to be able to see the "art" of mother nature.

George Souto I think you're right. For example, I have friends who plan fall trips to your area just to see the leaves change.

Beth Atalay Thank you!  Larry does love being able to use the fireplace!!!

You know how much I hate the cold, but I cannot imagine giving up the seasons. Taking a break from winter for a couple of months would be nice, but I love the spring and fall!
