Motivational Monday...Routine Adjustments
Most of us have routines we follow...things we do daily before we start our day or our daily routines for our work. We’ve developed and honed them as we find what works for best us.
However, holding on too hard to routines can cause chaos in your day when an outside glitch or person makes an appearance. What causes your routine to be thrown out the door doesn’t have to be something negative...it could be something positive like a visit from a family member.
Last week we had an unexpected visit from Larry’s daughter and her youngest son. We were excited to see them because it has been well over a year since we visited Omaha.
We scrambled to rearrange a few appointments and ready the house! I have to admit that as much fun as we were having, there were a few times when I couldn’t wait to get back to my daily routines.
My daily do's work for me...I like them. Even in retirement, I have my routine. I know what I plan to do every morning and of course, my weekly Zoom meeting on Tuesday.
There’s nothing etched in stone but my routines add balance to my life. However, when that equilibrium is knocked off-kilter either by an unexpected visit or plans being interrupted by a schedule change, I’ve learned that it’s best to make routine adjustments.
Life would be boring without change. Having to change our routine keeps us on our toes...it keeps our dendrites firing. It turns vanilla ice cream into ice cream sundaes.
What about you? Do you have routines you follow?
