One of my favorite scenes in the movie, The Jerk, is when Steve Martin's character excitedly exclaims, "I am somebody!"
Yes, I have had one of those moments. Recently, I participated in the pickleball Nationals at Margaritaville, aka Pickleball Paradise. I need to let you know, we made it in in the lowest level, 3.0. Still, it was an honor to participate. We were there with many number one players in their category, including the women's number one singles player, Anna Leigh Waters. She is only 14 years old! Other notables present included Tyson McGuffin, Dave Weinback and Julie Johnson. In other words, I was there with the best of the best.
Now, for my, "I am somebody," moment. An email was sent out from Pickleballtournaments.com. A mass email. Included in that email are all the above mentioned players. They were very thoughtful by including a picture of me. I am preparing myself to participate in the single, most important match of my short pickleball career against the eventual gold medalists. Here it is.

Now you can say, "I knew Ray when...."

I also want to acknowledge that the referees were awesome! A little side note. Early in our first match, I had the players and the referee laughing out loud. The referee actually looked at me and crossed himself!
