Flowers in Our New Yard, Goodyear, AZ

We have always loved to work in our yard and create beautiful landscapes.  When we decided to move to Goodyear, AZ., we were not sure how we would adapt.  It turns out that we have adapted quite well, as long as, we have really good gloves.  It seems like most plants here have something sharp on them.

The first two plants that we added to our yard were a Barrel Cactus and the floppy cactus pictured above.  The floppy cactus just took off and look at all of those beautiful blossoms.  We have had over 25 flowers this year.  The only downside is that the rabbits love to eat the flowers.

The blooms only last for a day, so when I see the rabbits commit their dirty deeds, I understand Elmer Fudd so much better...Kill the Wabbit! ! !  Look at the little guy.  He seems to be mocking me. 😳

Next on our list was a Meyer's lemon bush.  It is not like we really need one.  When you drive through PebbleCreek, people leave bags of all kinds of citrus out in boxes and bags.  It is all free for the taking.  Look at just the partial bounty that I collected this year.

I can't wait for next year's crop to come in, though.  There is nothing like a fresh Meyer's Lemon.

We could not go without some Bougainvillea, so we planted some along our fence line.  It turns out that it is a little messy, but it is sure beautiful!

Bougainvillea

One of the nice surprises has been the Lantana plants that were already in the yard.  They bloomed prolifically this year and added another pop of color to our yard.

The same thing can be said for our Dwarf Bottle Brush Bushes.  Our little neighbor likes it, too!

We have enjoyed putting our own personal touch to the yard.  There are a few more things that I would like to add to the yard, such as this floppy cactus that is in my neighbor's yard.

Floppy Pink Cactus

If we had room, I think we would add a Saguaro Cactus, too.  Ha!  That is a thought that I never believed would enter into my head, but at the right time, they are beautiful.

Thank you for this month's challenge, Debe Maxwell, CRS.  I think we will bring a little beauty to the world this month.

The only ones that we are worried about are the roses. They do need more water Janice Zaltman, but we have not planted a lot of them.  We were told that Arizona used to produce a lot of roses

We are still learning, Jan Green - Scottsdale, AZ.  We planted a beautiful Julia Child Rose and did not put any cage around it.  The bunnies ate about half of it.  I think it will be fine now, but hopefully I have learned my lesson well. I hope you are doing well!

Hi Ray Henson - I remember the first time I saw multiple blooms on cactus and how surprised I was.  Those are beautiful.  The Saguaro cacti are in bloom right now.  You have lots of color in your yard.  I am sure it will be more beautiful as the seasons progress.

MM and I will keep adding flowers until we have no more room left, Sheri Sperry - MCNE®.  My dad has had success with his vegetable garden this year, so we will probably add one next year.  We may also add another fruit tree of some kind. We do enjoy working in the yard.

Gorgeous blooms, Ray, thank you for sharing! Looks like you and MM have been busy adding beauty to your surrounding area. I definitely recommend adding citrus trees, the fruits taste so much better than store bought.

Thank you and I agree with you, Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! We have already planted our favorite, a Meyer's Lemon.  We have also planted a lime tree.  We are debating our next fruit tree. The debates are getting more challenging because we do not have much more space available.

We just visited my wife's nephew in Florida.  He has his garden spread across over an acre with just about everything, including bananas and many varieties that I have never heard of before.  There was a day that I would have loved a big garden like that, but I seem to be getting lazy as I age.  😉
