Living the Summer Dream in Tucson

I received an article about the dog days of summer and how to survive them today.  I immediately thought, well, dogs don't like "summer days" in Arizona too much.  They are out with their owners early morn and after dark...our 100 degree temps aren't just hot - they are positively painful unless they are wearing protection on their feet!

For a brief history lesson, the Farmer's Almanac offers a definition regarding the Dog Days of Summer:

"This period of sweltering weather coincides with the year’s sunrise rising of Sirius, the Dog Star. Sirius is part of the constellation Canis Majoris—the “Greater Dog”—which is where Sirius gets its canine nickname"

One of the suggestions mentions a poolside picnic, and another - a nature walk.  (Obviously, a NATIONAL article)

I will say we enjoy an evening pool side, avoiding the UV rays between 10 and 4.  Monsoons are here now, so that's when they tend to roll in.   There's a really cool resource online about lighting, you can see it here.   Surprisingly enough, Arizona is 34th in total lightning "pulses" for 2020.  But, I still come inside when I hear the thunder.

Nature walk - aim for a 6 a.m. departure.  Truly.

Seriously though, I've lived in Tucson, Arizona since 2000 and have not regretted a day.  I grew up in the drizzly Puget Sound area of Washington State, and then spent 22 years near Green Bay, WI.  So, I've seen some weather.

There's something magical, to me, about waking up to (see VisitTucson.com) 350 days of sunshine a year.  Bestplaces.net report that we see some kind of precipitation 52 days per year, on average.

But if you are looking for things to do in and around Tucson during summer, try stargazing or a sunset picnic at Gates Pass (See photo), the Pima Air Museum or the Titan Missile Museum, (and many other museums!) Colossal Cave, Kartchner Cavern, Mt. Lemmon,  entertainment spots like Casa Film Bar or Not Burnt Out, Just Unscrewed, The Casinos, or...there's always bowling!

If you or someone you know is thinking about moving to Tucson, please consider me a resource.  I do more than sell homes in the area - I live the life.  I love the life.  Cara Mancuso, Designated Broker of Golden Girls with SW Desert Homes, Tucson, AZ. 520-909-2988
