Motivational Monday…Learning to Embrace Change

As they say, change is inevitable. Whether in our work, at home, ourselves, our friends and family…things, people, and situations…there will always be change.

We may be the ones who decide to change jobs or where we shop. Or we may have to accept a change that comes to us when a good friend decides to move away or our favorite restaurant closes.

There are people I know who cannot handle change. One friend chose to stay in a one-sided marriage because the thought of making a change was something she could not bear.

I met a client whose husband wanted to update their kitchen, bathrooms, and floors. It was definitely time. However the wife was so afraid of change, she could not embrace what many of us would be excited about

Will we like the new Broker?  Why did they have to change our MLS?  Why did they have to change (fill in the blank)?

Some changes are little blips on our radar and for the most part, we pause and move on. And, there are those changes that can stop us in our tracks. We freeze and anxiety overtakes us.

It’s up to us to accept and move through the changes in our lives.

And if we’re really lucky, we’ll learn to embrace the change. Instead of seeing all of the negative ramifications, we’ll find something positive from the change.

CHANGE

Recognize it…Accept it…Embrace it

The past is like an anchor... you need to let go of who you were, to become who you'll be.

The Millionaire Moron

The magic of life is about looking forward, neither looking around and worrying what is about to go wrong nor having sorrows of the past.

Kathy, I know remodeling is painful, but the end result is so much fun.   Change can be tough, but sometimes you should embrace it.

Good morning, Kathy... I've never been afraid of change... I think it's in my DNA to embrace it. From what I've observed throughout my life is that people who are afraid of change or resist it can't ever really "learn" to accept change. They might ultimately accept it, but there is always resistance. It's in their DNA.

Change can be difficult to some. We had a home sold once and the seller had to take it off the market because their child was afraid to make a change at her school. They said they will put it on market again after she graduates High School.

Change can be good or bad and I think that is why people worry about it so much.  At times we think some change will be really good for us but then we miss what we had before that we didn't appreciate, haha.

Brian England and that's normal. We're comfortable with what we have so change can be hard.

Hello Nina (oops, sorry Kathy Streib) - I don't immediately recall seeing that saying about change as it relates to parenting.  Maybe, that's why rebelling to it is popular in some circles.  🙃

Hi  Michael Jacobs fighting change is a way of trying to have some control in our lives.

I agree.  We do have to be flexible and accept change, but that MLS change you mentioned can really get under my skin.  😉

Ray Henson I'll bet!  There are things we do daily that when disrupted by some kind of change throws us off.

Good morning Kathy,

A great Monday post on change. Our office phones will be undergoing a change next month. It actually will be better but it is a change and there will be those who will have difficulty in the change.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX that's one of those kinds of changes that all of us have to face and yes...it can be difficult at first. I had someone who worked for me who hated it when we upgraded our phones or office procedures.

Hi Kathy,

As we get older, we see just how much change happens.  Yesterday, I was thinking about how different our community was when I moved to Sedona in 2003.  There are so many things I miss.  However, we all have to move forward. If we don't it strangles our growth.  We need to accept and embrace it as you stated above. Happy Monday!

Change is definitely inevitable.  I've learned to evolve with it.  However, I cringe when I hear the words, "Change is good."  I believe change is only raw energy, only as beneficial as those that encounter it with positive force.

Depending on the change I usually work through it.  The ones I am not fond of is electronic processes changing when we upgrade software.  Sometimes I don't have the patience for the learning curve because I hate skipping a beat, which always seems to be the case in my world (example:  New Phone!)  But when it comes to remodeling, etc. I LOVE CHANGE!
