This demand is coming from people who will be buying in a 55+ community but for a number of reasons want to rent a house in the particular 55+ community which they have researched and want to make their home one day.

55 Community Guide has listings of homes for sale or rent in 55+ communities in addition to our 55 community listings.
There is a section for listings of individual homes for sale and another section for individual homes for rent or lease. The homes do not have to be in a 55+ community, but need to be appealing to age 50+. Some may say retirement homes but you don't have to be retired to enjoy the benefits of living in a 55+ community.

House Sharing for Boomer Women
The word is that one third of the baby boomers are single and there are more single boomer women than men. The leading edge of the older boomers is now pushing 68 to 69 years old. As boomers move into retirement communities it will be interesting to see what housing arrangements these single boomers make.

I believe the metro Atlanta location is a big plus for this community. It is not your big "cruise ship" type 55+ community, but it has the location that those type communities don't have. Today it was reported by NAHB's 50+ Housing Council in their third quarter report that builder confidence in the 55+ housing market showed continued improvement in the third quarter of 2013 compared to the same period a year ago.
All segments of the market - single family homes, condominiums and multifamily rentals, all registered strong increases. Buyers and renters are attracted to new homes and 55+ communities according to Robert Karen, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders.

There is an interesting article in the WSJ about how to choose your retirement destination with the explanation "The Experts weigh in.". They had my interests until I saw some of the experts included Suzanne Somers and Morgan Fairchild. Wow, just wow.
However the expert list did include creditable people like Joseph Coughlin of the MIT Age Lab also and reading through the article there are some really good points.
