Although teens have been banned from this practice for the last two years, the updated North Carolina law comes into effect December 1, 2009 prohibiting all drivers from texting while driving... Horray!
This has been a concern of mine for quite some time as I have been at close "call" with a driver not paying attention that nearly collided with me on the road traveling at 55 mph. Very scary.

Dempsey Hamilton ,my Grandpa and hero, shared a smile with everyone he came into contact with. It was an infectious smile...I actually think his eyes danced when he laughed.
Grandpa was one of 10 children. By 8th grade he dropped out of school to work in a sawmill and help provide for his large family. To me he was wiser than any man with a PhD.
In 1939, at age 19 he and four of his brothers- yes five boys in one family- served in WWII. Then the Korean War. All five made it back. He gave 20 years and retired in 1959. He was a man of few … (0 comments)

It has taken me two months to sit and eulogize my beloved English Bulldog Meatball. An ache would always cripple my thoughts and bring me to tears ..which blurred my ability to type this.
It is now that I can finally say I am at peace with his passing and know he's whole and healthy running around in Heavens Dog Park.
Lesson learned... Hearts can heal..and it is ok to love again.

As Tropical Storm Hanna exits Carteret County with her strong Tropical Storm winds ( up to 74 mph) and gusty rain bands...I am once again reminded how powerful nature can be and how it it necessary to plan ahead using the Hurrican Preparedness Kit I posted about last season. Along with wind and rain squawls we are warned of tornado threats. Yesterday water spouts/ funnels were reported in Carteret County. When considering a a Crystal Coast purchase you will eventually want to know what the tax rate in Carteret County is set at. Tax rate is calculated using the property tax assessment value. Value was assessed in 2007 and the rate was adjusted. The following is the current tax rate chart. If the home/land is in a town you add county and that town plus the fire fees, solid waste fee. *note Oceanfront and non-oceanfront tax for island.
We really have incredibly low taxes- making your purchase more affordable !

I love Carteret County in the Fall!
Fall doesn't "technically" start until mid September but I tend to gauge my fall by the cooler evenings and the change of scenery. Along the Crystal Coast of NC you will find the blooms of Crepe Myrtles and fragrant jasmines. Migratory birds from the north are finding their way to our coast and tourists are realizing the fall months in Carteret County offer a variety in fun activities!
