activerain advice: To Disable Comments Is To Always Have The Final Word??? - 10/29/19 07:40 PM
Oh boy! Barbara Todaro is spot-on with this post and YES, the comments are OPEN below!

I rarely re-blog but, hopefully this will help those who disable comments, telling those who read their posts, that their comments are not wanted - or, as Barbara says, to "have the final word."

I have had conversations with many members about those who disable comments on re-blogs and we disagree with that as well. Here are FOUR really good reasons why:

1.  I read their intro and want to comment on THEIR intro, then, I'll go comment on the original, if I haven't already done so.

2. I WANT to thank them for sharing the … (21 comments)

Motivational Monday - Character & Defining Moments

Is there a difference between tough ethical decisions and defining moments? I believe there is. For me, an ethical decision involves choosing between two options: one that we know is right and another, we know to be wrong. Defining moments challenge us in a deeper way, in fact, to our core. Defining moments are when we choose between two or more ideals in which we deeply believe. These are situations created by circumstance that ask us to step forward and, as John Dewey said, we “form, reveal, and test ourselves."

Our character is formed in those defining moments; something … (42 comments)

Mastery - There's a Point Here
Mastery...
...is based upon our inclination to overcome that which has obstructed our ability to achieve true success.  Recently, I have read several questions/comments/posts about others' success and members' thoughts as to what that achievement may or may not mean to the successful ActiveRain member.

Points seem to be a large part of discussion here for various reasons--some have lots of points, others have very few; some expect more points, others would 'give them away' if they had an opportunity.

Plain and simply, the points are the 'way of the world' here on ActiveRain.  We receive points when we … (51 comments)

activerain advice: Somewhere Over the ActiveRainbow, There is a Pot of Gold - 01/07/18 07:37 AM
Somewhere Over the ActiveRainbow, there is a Pot of Gold (and a few guidelines)!I've never been a rule-breaker - always taking the high road and always following the law to a 't.'  Rules, guidelines & laws are set in place for a reason and I believe that if everyone stuck to them, the world would be a better place!

Here on ActiveRain, the guidelines are few but, they are clear, concise and meant to be taken seriously. In fact, following them takes really no thought - read them and heed them, pure & simply! What do you get when you follow the community guidelines? An … (92 comments)

Still Singing in the Rain - A Counterpoint

I always love reading Jon Zolsky, Daytona Beach, FL's blogs. He's full of wisdom and curiosity, always giving his readers something to ponder. Last month, I read a post that Jon wrote, "Do You Hear the Song?" and began to write an answer in response...that well, turned into this post! Many of you know that I'm 'famous' for my verbose responses around the Rain - I simply can't stop at just one thought - I must give mutiple options/opinions! LOL

So, here's my counter-point to Jon's post (linked above)

I believe ActiveRain has 'risen to the occasion' with regards to doing what its founders … (20 comments)

activerain advice: YES! There's Magic in the Rain! - 12/10/16 03:03 PM
YES!  There's Magic in the Rain!

Channeling Roald Dahl's quote, "Those who don't believe in magic will never find it," I set out today to make more magic happen!

Armed with my cell phone, FaceTime and a list of homes to show two sets of buyers (via Facetime), I wondered how this day would end.  So, I decided to believe in the magic of ActiveRain and myself and make something happen today - hey, if it's meant to be, it WILL happen, right?!

Several homes that I went through had other buyers there as well - two of which, I could not get around FaceTiming with my … (88 comments)

Repeat Business and Finding New Leads

Our business if focused on referrals but, we also procure a lot of leads from our websites.  For our current and past clients, we keep in touch often with reaches via snail mail, email, phone calls and client appreciation events.  This communication brings us great referrals from our clients and we let them KNOW how much we appreciate them!

activerain advice: Mastering Your Domain - 02/01/12 03:37 PM
Mastering Your Domain
Okay, I’ll admit it, I’m an Inman News junkie!  It’s a bit difficult to keep up with the amazing minds who write for Inman but, I do enjoy trying!
In a recent article, “How to turn leads into real estate clients,” there was a lot of great information contained within but, in my opinion, the main part of that article truly had nothing to do with the title itself.
“Many real estate professionals don't understand that a website needs to be tweaked and measured..”  This single statement is, to me, the most important part of this post!  … (75 comments)

Tips for Blogging when You've Run Out of Ideas
Here are some ideas that when that writer's block hits, you can seize the moments...of life...and blog about it!
Read through others' blogs... ...or read the news. Write what you've sent someone in the business via email--an explanation of terms, etc. Where did you dine out this week?  Write a restaurant review. What schools are in the close proximity to your home?  Write about them. What is the market doing in the communities that you serve?  Do a market report.
On a daily basis--okay, hourly--the beginnings of a blog post come to … (106 comments)

Common Consumer Complaints About Real Estate WebsitesSo, what is keeping your site from holding your visitors' interest?  Could be content, or lack thereof but, there are other reasons that folks just don't stay on your site.  Hopefully you've mastered all of the techniques to keeping the consumer on your site.  If you haven't, here are a few common complaints about real estate websites and how to remedy each of them:
