austin tx bugs: Wordless Wednesday - UnWelcomed Guests - 07/20/11 09:19 AM
I was cleaning off my table the other day and out of my peripheral version, I saw something black on my shirt. I went to brush it off me and mid-brush, I noticed "it" had pinchers.  I went to look at the ground, and saw it was this enormous scorpion...

Then, I went to get a penny to have reference to the size, and realized just how HUGE this nasty creature is!!

I don't care that it was smaller than my pinky nail, that is still gross!!  Now I know how those big ones get in my house... they … (19 comments)

austin tx bugs: Speechless Sunday - More Austin TX Creatures - 09/05/10 11:59 AM
This spider has been making its rounds around our house. It started on our master bedroom window. Then is was on the back porch. I guess there weren't enough insects, so she moved to the kitchen window... and her last stop thus far is the side garage door.  Why do I call her a "she"? According to the internet, the females get to be just over two inches whereas the males are barely 3/4 inches.  This one is HUGE!

austin tx bugs: Do Scorpions Eat Much? - 08/05/10 01:41 PM
The creatures of Austin strike again... look what joined me at dinner...

I thought it was dead as it looked curled up, but I touched it with a knife and it sprinted to the other side frantically trying to get up the wall. This is the fourth one in sixteen months in my house. AND we fumigate regularly!
Where are they coming from? This is disgusting!!

austin tx bugs: Austin TX Wildlife - A Creature Around Every House - 10/15/09 09:30 AM
Austin TX Wildlife in and around new home communities is always interesting to see.

Here is my newest find on our back steps.  There are two, but I couldn't get the other one in a good pose. As you can see, compared to the penny, these are tiny little guys.  So cute.  Alyssa and I were poking them with blades of grass to make them hop.  Each time, Alyssa would say, "Ribbit ribbit." Here are some of the other Austin TX Wildlife creatures I've found in and around my home.
The Mommy Toad to these two babies, I assume The … (19 comments)

austin tx bugs: Austin TX Insects- I Found a Tarantula on My House! - 10/08/09 06:00 AM
The Austin TX Insects are getting worse and worse... Look what we found on the side of our house yesterday!!

This picture was taken from about 8 feet away because my husband reminded me that Tarantulas can jump up to 10 feet, so I wasn't comfortable getting any closer.  My neighbors even came out to see what the commotion was as they're from Wisconsin and had never seen on before.  Granted, I've lived in Texas over 25 years and I've never seen one in person before!! It was more disturbing when it jumped off and started walking in the grass.  … (23 comments)

austin tx bugs: Austin TX Wildlife - Austin TX Insects - 09/06/09 07:41 AM
I've been having fun capturing all the interesting Austin TX Wildlife and Austin TX Insects that I'm finding around my house and neighborhood.  Backing to a wooded, greenbelt area brings in more creatures than interior properties.

This one actually stopped flying long enough for me to get a pretty good picture of it. No blurry, flapping wings, but completely in focus.
It's beautiful!

austin tx bugs: Austin TX Creatures- Gecko of Luck - 08/23/09 04:44 AM
This lovely, Lucky, creature was found inside my home a couple of days ago.  We let it outside.  It is rumored that if you see geckos in or around your home, it means good luck.  I sure could use some good luck on a lot of issues these days, so I'm crossing my fingers and holding my breath!!
The picture was taken with my camera phone so the image is not the greatest. I tried to make it sharper, but whenever I increased the size, he was very blurry...

austin tx bugs: How Many Kinds of Ants are There? - 08/07/09 03:05 AM
Did you know there are about 10,000 species of ants?  I have no idea how a tiny little creature could look so different from the next to come up with 10,000 differences, but that's amazing.

The most common I hear referred to are red ants, black ants, and carpenter ants.  I guess I need some education in 9,997 other different kinds of ants.

I had an inspection on a house where the termite guy found "acrobat" ants.  Were the ants doing back-bends and cartwheels for him to determine that?

Some ants bite and others don't.  I'm allergic to … (15 comments)

austin tx bugs: Can You Identity this Creature? - 07/12/09 01:32 PM
Thus far, you guys have been able to name everything I've thrown at you, but can you name this creature?

My husband said it was a dragonfly, but we've seen many dragonflies while on the boat, and this is no dragonfly.
It nicely let me take a few pictures and then as soon as I put the camera down, it flew away.
What am I?

austin tx bugs: Another Austin TX Killer Insect in My House! - 07/02/09 03:59 AM
Over the past couple of weeks, I've been posting pictures of some "creatures" in and around my house.  Can you guess what this one is?

I walked into my Toilet Room, as it's the little room in the bathroom that separates the toilet, and I usually don't turn the light on in there because there's a window or because I have the light in the main bathroom on.
This evening, it was already dark outside, and I didn't have the main light on.  I just walked right into the Toilet Room, and casually turned the light on, and then … (12 comments)

austin tx bugs: Can You Identify this Creature? - 06/25/09 01:28 AM
You guys did so well helping me figure out what this creature was, the katydid, that I've got another one for you...
What is this??
Here it is laying on its back kicking up its legs and I have it compared to a penny.

Here it is completely stretched out hanging on to the side of the step for dear life.

My husband called it a twig bug, as the body did look like a twig from a tree, but I've never heard of such a thing.... but I haven't heard of many of these new bugs I'm seeing.  Wait … (14 comments)

This blog is to help educate Buyers, Sellers and even other Realtors across the country.  Each market is different and the way Real Estate is done is different.  Austin Real Estate is completely different than Dallas, California and Florida and everywhere else in between.  Some times there will be other things besides real estate as I like to rant and rave as much as the next!!  Come back often!
