You guys did so well helping me figure out what this creature was, the katydid, that I've got another one for you...

What is this??

Here it is laying on its back kicking up its legs and I have it compared to a penny.

austin tx bugs

Here it is completely stretched out hanging on to the side of the step for dear life.

My husband called it a twig bug, as the body did look like a twig from a tree, but I've never heard of such a thing.... but I haven't heard of many of these new bugs I'm seeing.  Wait until you see the scorpian I found in the bathroom last night!!

Take your wildest guesses!!

We have walking sticks up here as well.  They're very cool.  They need a feature role in someone's movie.  Nice photos Donna.

Wow !

I thought it was a cousin of the praying mantis at first, but then I thought of the 'Stick Insects' that we used to see in the countryside.

Good camouflage for that guy though huh !

lol

Phasmatodea?  Did I miss a few days of school where they taught about bugs?  Of course I would google it if I had its name, but you can't post a picture and tell google to find it, so I didn't know where to start... though I guess I could have put "twig" in the name and the stick would have come apparent.

Thanks for your help everyone!  I think I rather have more of these Walking Sticks than the scorpian I found last night!

What the heck do you have going on down in Austin???  This is the second bug you took pictures of that is not a typical bug. They are cool to look at, but clearly you have some bizarre bugs down there.

Now Now everyone.  Though Karen's comment was funny, let's all be nice or I'll send some of my deadly bugs up there to getcha!

TLW, How do you get them on the hook?  There is no meat to stab...

Hi Donna - We have walking sticks here, but they are bright green.  How come they turn brown in Texas?  Hmmmm.  ;-)
