the socialist pig: What are your plans for Valentine's Day? Staying in/Going out? - 02/10/15 02:20 AM
So many opinions on the 14th of February . . .
Is it a true holiday or just a made up holiday to line the pockets of business?

No matter how you feel about it, it exists like the falling tree in the forest!
Do you enjoy a romantic night in with a specially prepared candle light dinner     OR
would you prefer to dine out in your favourite restaurant enjoying the delicacies de jour ?
My inbox is filled with special menus from local restaurants that serve two purposes:

the socialist pig: GUESS WHERE I'M GOING IN GANANOQUE TONITE? - 02/16/12 05:56 AM
Guess where I'm going tonite in the 'metropolis' of Gananoque??
I'm going to The Socialist Pig for a latte and there, Mark Sinnett, the author of The Border Guards will be reading from his book (and I hope to get an autographed copy too.)
There is only 1 copy left in stock at Amazon and this is part of their review of same:
"Set primarily in Kingston and the Thousand Islands area, a popular summertime playground that in winter becomes a treacherous and desolate locale seemingly populated primarily by spies, smugglers, and border patrols, The Border Guards features a colourful … (7 comments)

the socialist pig: Naturally sMITTEN - in Gananoque On - 12/17/11 04:14 AM
If you haven't yet finished your shopping, take a look at these fantastic, locally made, mittens by Angie Fodey of "Naturally sMITTen"  in Lansdowne.   I purchased two pairs for gifts but I know I'll be back for more - they really are a wonderful gift item for everyone on your list!
They are all handmade from recycled materials such as old wool sweaters for the outer layer and a fuzzy warm fleece for the interior liner.  The liners are removable, which makes for faster drying times too.
Angie Fodey, the owner of  Naturally sMITTen, says, "I'm not being biased when I say that 'these are … (10 comments)

the socialist pig: THE SOCIALIST PIG in Gananoque Squeals Success! - 03/11/11 08:45 AM
Gananoque, Ontario
Back in August 2010, I wrote a post about my new favourite place in town, The Socialist Pig - a coffee shop extraordinaire! I loved it so much I received a gift certificate for my 50th birthday for 50 Lattes !!
I met there yesterday with a client/friend for lunch and had the most amazing meal with my new favourite hot drink: fresh lemonade with fresh ginger!!! Forget about all the wonderful health benefits to this concoction (and there are many) - it is just a fantastic taste.
But the soup of the day was out of this world … (10 comments)

Then the lightbulb went off over my head -  we have a new coffee shop down across from the town park at 21 King St - THE SOCIALIST PIG !!!!!
If you have the chance, … (13 comments)
