Governor Cuomo Says Reforms Mean $44 million Savings for Orange County Over Next 5 Years - Only Time Will Tell - 02/29/12 09:04 AM
For years, New York State has passed laws, often called mandates, that add to the costs of local government. Public employee pension costs are one of the most expensive of these mandates. For example, over the last ten years, public pension costs in our state have risen over 650%.
The Governor’s proposed modification of the state’s pension system alone would save Orange County more than $26 million. The proposed pension plan would require future employees to pay more into their own pensions and would begin to bring our pension system in line with other states. This was taken right up the street from my house in Orange County in the Hudson Valley. As many of you know there is a farm right near me with animals that are retired from the circus and others that are used in movies.
It gives me such pleasure to drive by there because I never know what I will see. This particular day I got to see one of my favorites. He/she is usually so far away I can't get a decent picture. Several times a year if I am lucky he/she will come up within a few hundred feet … (23 comments)

Tell Enterprise Rent-a-Car to stop fighting against a law that would ban renting recalled cars.
This is a sad story that started with two young sisters who were killed in an Enterprise rental car that had recall issues. It should have been taken off the lot to be repaired but never was.
Rosemary Shahan, president of Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety (carconsumers.org), says lobbyists for rental car companies told her last year at a meeting in the State Capitol Building in Sacramento that their companies sometimes needed to rent cars under recall, particularly during busy holiday weekends.

Lately with things being so hectic I find it harder and harder to comment to each person individually on each blog, visit their blogs, post new blogs, and try and visit new people's blogs. Never mind trying to get my real estate done which has been non-stop lately. That definitely calls for a big YAY! Thanks to the weather for no snow!
