Palos Verdes Street Fair and Music Festival to be held July 12 and 13 - 05/20/10 05:38 PM
 
The 23rd Annual Palos Verdes Street Fair and Music Festival will be presented by the Palos Verdes Chamber of Commerce on June 12 and 13 . The fair is held between the Promenade on the Peninsula and the Peninsula Shopping Center on Cross Field Drive in Rolling Hills Estates. The fair is open from 10 to 10 on Saturday and 10 to 9 on Sunday.  Admission and entertainment is free.

Food vendors, carnival rides, a dog show from 10 to noon on Saturday, and many other events are planned.  More information can be obtained at http://www.pvstreetfair.com/aboutus.html

Rolling Hills Estates Parks and Activities Commission Recommends Dog Park - 05/18/10 11:25 PM
The Parks and Activities Commission of the City of Rolling Hills Estates agreed at their meeting tonight to recommend that the City Council of RHE send a letter to the County of Los Angeles in support of the proposal to construct a dog park on the former Palos Verdes Landfill site.  This proposal, prepared and presented by my husband Bruce Megowan at the Commission meeting, can be viewed at my web blog entry Dog Park Proposal - Rolling Hills Estates

Palos Verdes Marathon on Saturday - 05/14/10 05:09 PM
Saturday marks the 44th annual Palos Verdes Marathon, Half-Marathon and 5K, hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Rolling Hills Estates.
The events kick off at 7 a.m. with the full marathon; followed by the half at 7:30 p.m.; and the 5K and fun walk at 8 a.m. at Pt. Fermin Park, 807 Paseo Del Mar, San Pedro.

Additional parking and free shuttle buses to and from the park will be available at Cabrillo Marina, 224 Whalers Walk, San Pedro.

1st Quarter 2010 Palos Verdes and South Bay Los Angeles Real Estate Market Report - 05/13/10 08:34 PM
The real estate market for the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Beach Cities continued to be very active in the first quarter 2010, with sales volume up substantially compared to the prior year. Both buyers and sellers stepped up to buy and sell. Properties that were sitting for many months sold at all levels of the market. High end properties are selling as jumbo loans have become more available. Buyers who can get financing are actively looking and aggressively offering where they see a deal. Sellers who are motivated to move are pricing their homes to sell.

In a fantastic show of community support, the Palos Verdes High School Booster Club raised $120,000 at their annual fund-raising event "Catch the Wave."
                                                  
Sandy Fisler, who co-chaired the funder "‘Catch a Wave,'" said, "It was a magic evening for the Palos Verdes High School community, but our sold-out event's net proceeds raised more than $120,000 with a record $60,000 from event sponsorship."All the funds," she added, "will benefit academics, arts and athletics at PV High."The support we've received from the community during difficult economic times is really astounding," Fisler said

Palos Verdes School District Agrees to New Contract With Teachers - 05/13/10 08:15 PM
As reported in today's Peninsula News:
The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District and the Palos Verdes Faculty Association have reached a tentative contract agreement, reducing the number of instructional days from 180 to 176 for the 2010-11 school year. The move will reduce the salaries of all PVFA employees, saving about 25 teaching positions and keeping class sizes manageable. A joint announcement was made on Tuesday.

To help reduce a $4-million deficit because of the ongoing state budget crisis, the Board of Education in March approved preliminary layoff notices for more than 59 full-time equivalent teaching positions. Of those … (0 comments)

Palos Verdes Estates Police Officer Wins K-9 Competition - 05/12/10 06:35 PM
Palos Verdes Estates police Officer Joe Hall and his dog, Grim, were the overall champions at the Redondo Beach Police Canine Trials over the weekend at Redondo Union High School.
The dog teams competed in obedience, agility, searching, protection and narcotics detection.
               
In addition, Redondo Beach police officers Ken Greenleaf and Corey King, and their dogs, Caden and Dak, respectively, were the team champions.
Other winners included teams from Ventura, Inglewood, Anaheim, Ventura County, San Bernardino, Alhambra and Orange.
