Raspberry Tiramisu - A Perfect Recipe for a Hot Day - 06/28/10 07:15 PM
Sacramento is HOT today - 104 degrees to be precise.  It will be COOL food this evening, no hot dishes, AND for desert Raspberry Tiramisu! This is a nice version of the popular Italian pick-me-up dessert.  Where traditional tiramisu uses coffee, in this version raspberries are used.  In this version multiple layers will be created from cake, raspberries, and a white chocolate/cream cheese/whipping cream frosting mixture. It is presented best when a good size, deep clear glass salad bowl is used to showcase the layers of the tiramisu.

Life Really Does Have Alternative Realities - 06/26/10 05:44 PM
(Slide Show contains 11 images)
I have shuffled around this planet long enough to know a gal needs to always have a "Plan B" simmering on the back burner.  Because as John Lennon said, "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans."I've often wondered what I would do at this stage in my life, if a big disaster came, wiped me out financially, destroyed my home, and life as I know it!  Would I attempt to start all over again to recreate what I had, or would I do something totally different. The answer is I would likely do things … (25 comments)

Keeping Them Rolling During a Budgetary Crisis - 06/23/10 09:55 PM

It is certainly no secret that many states and communities have struggled with budgetary constraints in the last few years.  Police and Fire departments have been especially hit. However, I found possible evidence, on the streets of one Greater Sacramento Community, that a local fire department is doing a great job keeping some older vehicles in its fleet rolling:-)It really put a smile on my face!
I take pictures for the purpose of remembering fond times.  I do not impose copyright restrictions on this photo, so you may feel free to use, or distribute as you wish.  However, should you need a Real … (23 comments)

Median Sales Price For Single Family Homes Score Small Increase in Sacramento - 06/22/10 08:48 PM
Like Sacramento home sale statistics reported last month for April, there is continued encouragement in sales prices of single family homes in May.  They squeeked out a small jump from a year ago.  The number of sales were also slightly increased.Condominium sales experienced a 9.5% bump in median sales price for May 2010 vs May 2009.  However, the number of sales for condos was down 18.1% for the same period. Mortgage interest rates continue at historic lows, and for those with the ability to buy a home now, the opportunities are great!

How To Protect Your Property - 06/20/10 08:35 PM

Increasingly, we are seeing news segments, where security experts demonstrate striking examples of how tech gadgets kept in your car can make you a victim for car theft, and even home burglary.   One of the main targets seem to be the GPS gadgets left firmly mounted on the dashboard.  This can become an issue, while the owner is at a shopping mall, a gym, or involved in other activities.  Thieves can break into vehicles.  Sometimes even finding a set of keys.In one striking example, once the thieves started the car and pressed "Home" into the GPS device, they were guided … (15 comments)

Hilarious "This Old House" Slide Show - 06/16/10 09:45 PM
For an old blonde gal, I can usually hold my own with repairs around my home.  The only time I get into trouble is when the project has some weight to it.  That is where a strong guy comes in handy.Yet, about 75% of the time I can handle my home repair jobs. . .In fact, I enjoy the challenge of it all.I have a couple on-line resources I use to help me out.  One of them is Lou Manfredini's web site at http://www.housesmartstv.com But for one reason or another, I often find myself visiting the This Old House website.  I especially enjoy the … (17 comments)

California's Capitol Park in Sacramento - 06/13/10 10:08 PM
(slide show contains 11 images)
Walking around the grounds of the California State Capitol, here in Sacramento, yesterday, allowed me to get reacquainted with the monuments, sculptures and beauty of Capitol Park. There is virtually a memorial for every war Californians have participated in.  One of the more emotional of these for me, was the monument of the Vietnam War.  I had lost two friends in that war.Another amazing area honored the lost lives of California Firefighters.  This special memorial was comprised of a series of sculptures and structures, to honor those who protect life and property.Commemorating Father Junipero Serra, who established California's first … (21 comments)

Under Golden California Stars - 06/12/10 07:31 PM
(Slide Show contains 3 images)
Early today, I drove downtown, to California's Capitol building to revisit the monuments, and gardens, which I hadn't seen in several years. There is a newer area between 15th and 16th street which had some interesting markers, created from iron rods, with circular glass disks on top.  Closer examination of the disks, revealed various astronomical facts, certain discoveries and developments, pertinent to our State - fascinating stuff.A plaque explains the disks as follows:  "They represent the stars as they were over Sacramento on September 9th 1850, when California became the 31st state.  To the west is the … (10 comments)

One of the Best Authentic Indian Restaurants in the Greater Sacramento Area - 06/08/10 07:17 PM

A couple days ago when I was kickin' it in the Greater Sacramento community of Carmichael, I was hungry and ready for lunch, after visiting the Effie Yeaw Nature Center, which I blogged about yesterday.Fortunately, Carmichael has a great Indian restaurant near the Nature Center, at the corner of Fair Oaks Boulevard and Marconi.  Sher-E-Punjab has been recognized on TV Station KCRA 3's A-List of Sacramento Restaurants here in the Greater Sacramento area. The restaurant offers authentic Indian cuisine, and a wonderful lunch buffet, with numerous great tasting curry dishes and Tandoori chicken at an affordable price.   Evening dinner is also … (12 comments)

Effie Yeaw Nature Center - 06/07/10 06:48 PM
(Slide Show contains 11 images)
There is an area of the American River Parkway, which I have neglected to share with you.  Shame on me!  Sacramento County's community of Carmichael offers excellent recreational resources and opportunities to capture the interest of residents throughout the Greater Sacramento Area. The American River Parkway, with paved bike trails is an amazing 33-mile ride, which hugs the river from Old Sacramento to Folsom Lake.  There are regional and community parks and attractions, which cradle the Parkway and bike trails along the way.Adjacent to Carmichael's Ancil Hoffman Park - along the north side of the American … (12 comments)

Rabbits Play Where Tadpoles Dwelled - 06/06/10 05:30 PM
(Slide Show contains 6 images)
This year, it all started in March, when I began to watch and photograph the continual changes at Phoenix Park Vernal Pools in the Greater Sacramento community of Fair Oaks.  I had taken photographs and blogged a piece titled, "Just Because You Can't See Them Doesn't Mean They Aren't There."I returned again on May 7th - almost one month ago from today, hoping to see how the pools were progressing.  In early May, we had a lot of rain and it was remaining unseasonably cool in Sacramento.  There still was no signs of any marine life … (21 comments)

What if You Found Yourself in this Situation - 06/05/10 10:54 PM
You have been living comfortably in your home for several years, and have been happy there.  However, you have young children, and a sex offender has moved in directly across the street.  You are no longer comfortable living in your home and worrying about potential harm to your children. You want to market your home and move on; yet also know offenders are everywhere, and any future home could eventually also have an offender move into that neighborhood. Here are the questions potential sellers may be wondering:(1) What should I do?  Should I sell my home and move on?(2) If I decide to … (17 comments)

Is It Older Than You? - 06/04/10 08:36 PM
(one photo - no slide)
Last week, while strolling around Old Town Auburn, I came across this beauty.  I know what it is, but do you?  Perhaps it's before your time!  OK - OK, we know it's a Chevrolet.  After all it has its insignia poking you in the nose.  Let's hear your guesses!
