Start with the easy trails and then continue with more challenging ones? There is so much to see and do in Colorado Springs, you have to start somewhere. How about these 10 Trails?
Don’t forget to put sunscreen on, ideally a hat and bring water (!).  Please, never feed wild animals!
One more note: Some trails and hiking areas are in the process of being closed off to hikers, bikers, horseback riders. It’s very unfortunate. … (0 comments)

colorado springs: A new wildfire season is upon us - are you prepared? - 06/25/14 12:49 AM

Are you Wildfire Ready? In 2012, an estimated $449.7 million in insurance claims were filed due to wildfires across Colorado. The Waldo Canyon fire was the most expensive in Colorado history with 346 homes destroyed and $352.6 million from 4300 claims. As fire season is upon the state of Colorado again, it is important for homeowners to be prepared before, during and after a catastrophic event like a wildfire.

colorado springs: Spring could bring severe floods - Try out this special app - 06/25/14 12:39 AM

[Flash] Floods could happen any time With the catastrophic flooding across the state of Colorado in 2013 and wild fires increasing the risk of flooding in areas below the burn scars across the state, now is the time [again] to talk and think about this increased risk – and possibly about flood insurance.
In 2013, it was estimated that over 20,000 structures were damaged across the state in the September flood event. Of those damaged structures, only approximately 2,100 building owners had a flood policy with the National Flood Insurance Program to assist them in rebuilding after a catastrophic … (1 comments)

colorado springs: It's a great time to sell your home - and win! - 06/25/14 12:20 AM

As the real estate market has been recovering over the past few years, there were many home owners that unfortunately lost their shirt. Others have been holding on (we have) and stayed put, just because losing the money that they have put into the house was not an option. The tide has turned – and it has turned in a big way.

Inventory is extremely low and buyers are competing for the few “good” and well priced homes on the market. Many buyers are still pushing into the market because of the military moving season and because … (0 comments)

colorado springs: Bears, Fox, Deer, Coyote, Mountain Lion…Wildlife! - 04/15/14 11:04 PM

Intro to “The Wildlife” So when it comes to being a responsible homeowner and locking up all the things the local wildlife find appetizing, I must admit I am negligent.  YOU try getting three teenagers to close the fridge, much less shut the garage doors behind them in the evenings.  The fact is, if you live this close to the mountains, you WILL encounter some of the local wildlife…which is not at all scary…or shouldn’t be.  Here’s what you’ll find:
Mule Deer…perhaps the most common because they like to forage around people’s houses for tasty shrubs and occasionally hang out … (3 comments)

colorado springs: University Village Shopping Center, Colorado Springs - 03/13/14 08:16 AM

Why University Village Shopping Center in Colorado Springs ? Actually, the only reason that I discovered this shopping center was Costco.
We live in the Southwest of Colorado Springs and this area is notoriously “underserved” with retail shops. Don’t get me wrong, I love living here, but shopping can turn into a full day event if you need to go to the other side of town to be able to check all items off your list.
The happier I was when Costco on North Nevada opened. That’s about all I knew about this area and I didn’t pay much attention … (0 comments)

colorado springs: Snowshoeing Is An Easy Adventure! - 02/07/14 11:06 PM

Snowshoeing – easy adventure
In my previous post I have told you about Colorado Springs’ Parks where your winter fun is guaranteed. However, I have been remiss in talking about the gear that you need for snowshoeing.

The great part: You don’t really need much to snowshoe besides the snowshoes themselves, everything else you will most likely have already in your closet. If the snow really isn’t that deep, where you want to hike, then good winter boots will do the job. We’ve bought our snowshoes used off season and have had them now for several … (0 comments)

colorado springs: Colorado Springs Parks Provide Lots of Winter Fun - 02/07/14 11:04 PM
inSharToday the snow is falling heavily in Colorado Springs and while this makes me want to just curl up on the couch with coffee or hot chocolate.
On the other side, the thick layer of the white snow also makes me want to go outside, and play in it. Lucky for me, there are plenty opportunities to do just that. You can take a wintry snow hike in the many  in Colorado Springs’ Parks.
A special mention to these Parks:
Bear Creek Cañon 501 Bear Creek Rd. Picnicking, mountain biking/trails. 765.6 acres.
This park with its many uses also offers a … (0 comments)

colorado springs: Colorado Springs’ Sustainable Resource Groups -Join!! - 10/17/13 06:53 AM
Undoubtedly, Colorado Springs is a very green city. It’s is green by it’s parks, trail system and open spaces, but it is also ‘green’ in reference to it’s sustainability. Colorado Springs citizens recognized early on how important it is for our city and all of us who live here to have lots of opportunities to play outdoors. Afterall, we do have nearly 300 days of sun a year.
In order to protect our delicate environment at the foothills of the Rockie Mountains, many sustainability-related groups have formed. If you would like to get involved, simply contact any of them – they … (1 comments)

colorado springs: Down Syndrome Buddy Walk 2013 in Colorado Springs - 10/07/13 12:27 AM
Since the year 2000 our Colorado Springs Down Syndrome Association held their yearly Buddy Walk  at the park in Manitou Springs. This year though, the muddy floodwaters coming from the Waldo Canyon burnscar made it impossible to have our event in Manitou Springs.
The Down Syndrome Association was able to "switch" the event to the Penrose Event Center, still on the west side of town. They got the word out to all participants and ended up with the biggest crowd of participants they've ever had. There was lots of parking however, I missed making a big "hoopla" in town. When … (3 comments)
