A Lesson Learned From Another Business!

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Concierge SL0475285

Do you recall reading an advertisement in the Realtor magazine from an agent that promises “You to can earn $365,756 a year, just like me!”?  She claims that she learned secrets from some un-real estate related business that caused her to have major growth in her business.  I’m sure the lessons she shares (for $149) are important and probably have some value.

One lesson I learned from someone outside of our business, or at least it reaffirmed something I do (and should do more of), comes from Craig Shoemaker, the comedian.  If you are not familiar with Craig, he was the former sidekick for the Magic Johnson show.  He is also one of the funniest men alive!

What I learned, is that you must do things differently than everyone else in your business.  Be a leader, don’t follow the crowd!  Be creative and inventive.  What Craig does (and did this long before any comedian I ever saw) is that he asks you to fill out a card that he leaves on your table so that you can be put on his mailing list.  He then sends you a monthly new letter, promoting his upcoming show dates.  I’ve already penciled him in for a January show.  I never miss him when he comes into town because of his news letters.

The lesson here is stay in touch with your clients! Call them, mail to them, remember them on their birthdays, on their children’s birthday, on the anniversary of their move into the house, and any other excuse to stay in touch!

I'm sure one of the "lessons" she learned to make more money was to charge $149 to reveal those lessons to others.- Charles

Reminds me of a Jock Barker saying ....

Successful people do the things unsuccessful people find a waste of time.

Just need to be creative and think outside the box..

It's easier to work with an existing client than to find a new one - and keeping in touch with them is critical. Sure helps to have a contact management system to remind you of all these dates and when you were last in touch.

Unfortunately, most people who hear this advice will not learn to do it.
