The Difference Between a Mistake and Failure

"If you have made mistakes,

even serious ones,

there is always another chance for you.

What we call failure is not the falling down,

but the staying down."

Mary Pickford, American actress

As I see it. . . . . . . .

The difference between a mistake and failure . . . .

It's not a question if were going to make a mistake, the question is how soon and how many.

The only person that doesn't make mistakes is the person that not trying.

Mistakes are stepping stones to trying again with the benefits of our experience.

Don't except a mistake as failure see a mistake as an opportunity to become better as a result of the experience.

In reality mistakes are part of the normal life cycle and we have the opportunity of moving forward after a mistake with renewed commitment.

Failure is falling down after a mistake and deciding not to get up.

A mistake is a temporary condition if after a mistake you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and move on.

Then I must be trying & working really hard!  :-)

At least, I'm not making the same mistake over.  Thanks for the reminder that mistakes do not make me a failure.

Thank you for this timely reminder, to "carry on, regardless".    I keep a saying, attributed to Buddha, on my office wall: "fall down seven times, get up eight".

When falling down, it always helps to get up with grace. That way if you should slip on your way up again, you may be granted another chance...

Lou - excellent points, most baseball players only have success once every four times at bat, yet they make millions and are held in esteem. They fail three out of four times. I used to work for a company that rewarded risk taking almost as much as success, we ended up with more successes.

We will all make mistakes in life and in business, it's how we react to them that count the most.
