Georgina offers the ability to live, work and play within its boundaries. As well as having an estimated 16,000+ households and being home to over 46,000 residents the Town of Georgina, know as Ontario's first "Cottage Country", is a four seasons recreational and tourist destination.

While the town of Georgina is better know for some of its individual communities such as Jackson's Point, Keswick, Pefferlaw, Port Bolster, and Sutton; Georgina is the culmination of the amalgamation of the many communities that stretch along the south eastern shore of Lake Simcoe

Georgina stretches 52 kilometers (32 miles) along the shore of Lake Simcoe. Numerous recreational opportunities are found along the scenic lakeside roads with a number of public beaches and parks, including Sibbald Point Provincial Park. Known as the "Ice Fishing Capital of Canada" Georgina is renowned for its year round fishing and boating activities that attract visitors from around the Globe, with many returning year after year.

Some of the other area attractions include; Craft and Music Festivals, Studio Tours, the Keswick Marsh and Bird Sanctuary, the Morning Glory Provincial Nature Reserve, Museums, the Red Barn Theatre and the Stephan Leacock Theatre.

For those wishing to stay more than a day there are many Bed and Breakfast establishments scattered throughout Georgina as well as motels and "The Briars" one of Ontario's premier resorts.

Located approximately 60 - km north of the city of Toronto, Lake Simcoe is one of the worlds largest freshwater lakes that freeze completely over in the winter. Roughly 1/2 of Ontario's population is within one hour's drive of the lake and all that it offers.

The lake occupies roughly 20% of its total watershed of 3,580 km2. It is southern Ontario's largest body of water and is part of the Trent Severn Waterway that connects Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay.

Most of the 35 tributary rivers and five major tributaries that drain the watershed originate along the southern boundary of the watershed. These southern tributaries have their headwaters in the Oak Ridges Moraine and run north into southern shores of the lake.

Early Settlers in the Uxbridge area used these many streams and rivers to supply power for lumber and grist mills. While some dams have been replaced over the years as flood control, the remnants of some of the old dams still remain.
