Many home staging transformations are the result of only a few well chosen alterations, as this home in Oviedo, Florida demonstrates. When we first saw it, this master bedroom was undistinguished and not particularly inviting, though it had several good features. And, as is usually the case, we needed to make it inviting within a strict budget.
Our first observation was that, while the room itself and much of the furniture were very good-looking, the arm chair was just plain ugly and the bookshelf unnecessary. But our main impression was one of imbalance, with the room seeming to tilt heavily toward the far side. This was because the bed had been placed under the peak of the room, which was not the center of the wall, and there was nothing on the other side of the room with enough visual weight to balance it.
So we got to work. We removed the bookshelf, and replaced the recliner with a more attractive, up-to-date arm chair. Because this chair is darker, wider, and has a lower back, it adds more visual weight to its corner than the old one did. It also matches the style of the bed and tables. Moving the tree from the "heavy" to the "light" side of the room added more height and weight. We paired it with another plant and a wicker suitcase to create an attractive display. Lights on the bedside tables helped even out the space, too. To spruce up the bed with minimal investment, we used the pillows from a set of sheets and folded the flat sheet at the end of the bed. We made sure the curtains were fully drawn, and voila! A transformed room!
