Using More Than One Blog Platform

Well,

I got tired of reading some of the responses in Maureen's blog post regarding rankings between AR and REW. It became too much of a this place is better than that place debate instead of a healthy discussion amongst adults so, I decided that I still needed to vent a bit about it and I decided this would be a good place for the post. For those of you who aren't caught up on her blog or don't feel like reading 60 comments, I'll sum it up. I posted a question in the REW real estate forum regarding featured listings here at AR and how they are achieved and in the insuing conversation, I made the comment that my blogs rank higher on REW than they do here as they relate to Google. This comment (on a different forum) spun out of control as you can see from the comments on Maureen's post.

You know what the bottom line is here? AR and REW are different. I use both. I like both. They are different though, that's for sure. There are definitely some cossovers, like myself who enjoy using both blogging platlorms. Some however, don't seem to be open to trying new things and that's fine too. Just don't knock what you don't know...It's much better to ask questions and learn to use what works to get your message out to consumers, unless that's not what you are trying to do. My guess, however, is that we are blogging for the most part because we feel like we have something to say that will be helpful to consumers and to further our online marketing. Blogging on multiple platforms helps. I have my own Atlanta Real Estate Blog hosted on my domain for my website as well.

I don't mind blogging on multiple sites. Some people are here some are there. You want to be able to reach as many people as possible. I don't see what the problem is. I know alot of people don't like change, but this is how it is now and how its going to be.

I was (and am still) blogging on a different platform before AR was born. You're right. There are different audiences to reach via differant platforms.

Well said Ryan,

There is certainly a vast amount of knowledge on both sites... and benefits that complement each other.

For those that think it is a "Us vs. Them", they have little clue to the intent of your original comments that started everything off in the first place --- especially since AR has been actively promoted on REW (by the owner of REW) for quite some time.  Which... tells me a lot about the agents who have that "Us vs. Them" mentality.

Will the Kool-Aid ever run out?

I was also using two blogging platforms but found it hard to write different content for each one, do you post the same blog on each site??

I don't think that it is a good idea to use the same content on different platforms. If you consider your audience, you can tailor your blogging to the different platform. For example I have several blogs that I use. I have an Alpharetta real estate blog and an Atlanta real estate blog as well as an AR blog and an REW blog. Sometimes topics overlap, for example if I am advertising an open house or occasionally trying to throw a link to a friends website, but, offsite blogs take time to build authority so most of the things that I really want consumers to see, I post on AR and REW right now. The idea is that long term, you can build yourself as an authority with your target audience by specializing your topics in more specific blogs, but it's hard to compete right out of the gate.
