We welcome Tom McCullough as the new SMMHS Principal.  We would also like to say thank you to Eddie Gravitte for leadership to this point and work to help make SMMHS a reality.  SMMHS is off to a great year with a great staff, faculty, student body and parental support.  I would like to acknowledge that parents make all the difference in public education.

The SMMHS Varsity Football is now 2-0 after their win against East Hamilton HS.  They will play their first away game this Friday September 4 against Lookout Valley at 7 p.m.

The Lone Oak Community Center will be hosting their monthly Country Breakfast this Saturday September 5, 7:30 A.M to 10 a.m. $6 donation requested and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the good food and fellowship.

Get in line early for the Annual Labor Day Barbecue brought to you by the Signal Mountain Lions will be September 7. It will be a day filled with food, fun, crafts and fellowship. Kids Sight First will be screening children all day. There will also be one lucky winner of the brand new Ford sedan. Jeff and I attended the county commission meeting on Thursday to hear the debate over the proposed sale of Signal Mountain Middle School property.  I would encourage everyone to take time to see government in action. Our elected officials put their pants on "one leg at a time" just like we do and unfortunately this human side does get in the way of good judgement. Just my opinion!

Chattanooga State is hosting an exhibit spotlighting Jewish history in Tennessee in the August R. Kolwyck Library. “Bagels & Barbecue: The Jewish Experience in Tennessee” documents the history of Jewish immigration to Tennessee. This exhibit began Aug. 10 and will continue through Sept. 16.
