Jay Leno did a funny spin on "Cash for Clunkers" last night.

I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. What made it so funny was the actual implication of "trading something in" and the government will pay you. The script last night was about trading your drop out "Flunker" kid. If you are tired of you kid not doing homework and they are flunking out of school ... the solution was to trade them in the "Cash for Flunkers" program.

Kids have a bad attitude ... no problem ... Cash for Flunkers can help!

People were dragging pre-teens and teenagers behind a door and coming out with a new kid and $4,500 cash from the government. I know my explanation does not do the skit justice. It was ridiculously hilarious!

I think many programs coming out of Washington are for the "flunkers" in our society. It's natural given the trend....no Valedictorians in most schools, everyone on all teams get trophies, our kids expect to get "A"s in school or parents call to complain. Entitlement is everywhere.

I must say, though, that I am one of those who traded in a 20-year old Jeep for new Honda CR-V. I was going to donate it to Salvation Army. It still ran, but the wheel was wobbly. I think that although the government gave me a rebate for it, I helped stimulate the economy by buying a big-ticket item, and also did my part for a greener vehicle.

Rationalization works.
