Do you ever get to the end of a day with the feeling that you're just flat WORN OUT but not feeling like you really accomplished all that much?
Doesn't feel very good, does it?
Why did this happen?
I'm betting that if this is your experience (Which if you are human in this day and age I think it IS occasionally), it's not necessarily about your ability to manage time.
This is about your HABITS . . . Your DISCIPLINE!
The "Rock and Roll Superstars of Time Management" are all very good about creating calendar templates and time blocked days . . . Being certain that there is a time for everything and everything has its time.
That part's the easy part . . . Creating the calendar.
Take it from a very seasoned time management veteran . . . It ain't that easy.
I personally have failed more than succeeded up til now . . .
The good news is that each failure is a failure FORWARD . . . I am learning :-)
The real Killer is that we have all developed habits which may not be so healthy.
The habit of allowing interruptions as a courtesy of feeling of obligation to others.
The habit of leaving email turned on when your time blocked activity has NOTHING to do with email.
The habit of glancing at your phone every time it rings to see who's calling EVEN while in mid-sentence in a deep conversation . . . It always destroys concentration because you then start wondering why THAT person was calling you.
The habit of fiddling with your PDA throughout a meeting . . . Why even GO to the meeting if you're not going to pay attention.
The habit of SAYING what you're going to do but never really getting around to doing it.
The habit of running down non-focused and non-productive "bunny Trails" . . . Just because . . .
the habit of saying: TOMORROW, I will start being more focused and productive . . . Tomorrow never comes.
TODAY is the day to pay attention to your habits.
The game of increased productivity is all about mastering the "Habits Marketplace" . . .
Trade in your less productive habits for new and more productive habits.
Don't take this lightly . . . Drill down to how you REALLY spend your time and consider where you are losing focus. Just putting time in on the task isn't enough . . . The time must ALSO be FOCUSED!
Delete or revise old habits and adopt new habits.
This is all about reorganizing your life ina way that builds momentum towards your goal.
It might begin with getting into the habit of turning the Cell phone or PDA OFF during important meetings and setting your own personal habit that if you think you MUST leave your cell phone ON throughout the meeting then the meeting is not important enough to attend ... Excuse yourself from the meeting and go somewhere else to watch your cell phone.
No excuses and none of this "I'll start this tomorrow" BS . . . If you want to change your habits for the better, NOW is the time to get started.
I'm just sayin'
Best,
b
