County code compliance is a hot topic for many neighborhoods around Lake County with several subdivisions and neighborhoods cracking down on violators. To avoid violations there are some items you should be aware of.
There are limits on the number of inoperable vehicles allowed in most zoning districts. In all cases, these vehicles are not allowed to be parked on the public street or in undeveloped vacant residential lots. All other vehicles must be registered and operable.
If you are a "collector" of various items, open and outdoor storage of items is limited allowed based on parcel size and it must be screened from public view.
If you are considering changes in your land use or structures, removing or modifying any structure, check with your local home owners association and Community Development before you begin your project.
Before you start a project it is important to understand where your property lines and easements are located.
Camping or occupancy of recreational vehicles parked on private or public land is not allowed without zoning clearance. Approved campgrounds, Trailer parks and Mobile Home parks are the only acceptable locations for living in an RV or camping.
Household garbage must be contained in a metal or plastic can with a tight fitting lid and must be removed at least once every 7 days. Just plastic bags are not allowed.
Commercial vehicles are not allowed to park in residentially zoned areas beyond temporary delivery. Over 1 ½ ton vehicles are limited to land zoned C2 or M3.
If you are unsure of a particular rule in Lake County, call the Community Development Department with any questions regarding building, planning, zoning, inspections and permits. The number for the Planning Division is 263-2221; the number for Code Compliance is 263-2309.
