LOUDOUN COUNTY VA IN AUTUMN - FALL COLORS and "TAKING THE CHILL OFF"

Signs of Autumn are everywhere in Loudoun County.  I'm in Western Loudoun County and hardly a day goes by that I don't drive somewhere.

A must about every other day is a trip to the Post Office to collect mail which, hopefully includes lovely referral checks from the fabulous network of agents and brokers to whom I refer home buyers.   Next , of course, would be a stop at the bank to deposit those lovely referral checks.

Where ever I go these days the countryside is spectacular and, although it's a warning that Winter is coming, our Winters are not really that bad with an average daytime high temperature of about 42 Degrees.  The Autumn colors have been beautiful this year, probably due to the ample rainfall.

Fall colors in Lovettsville end of October& Lovettsville home built in 1765 is beautiful with the fall colors.

Fall chores for this week include cutting back the Ornamental Grasses and shrubs in my yard.  Hopefully, I'll be able to get through next year without investing in more of these lovelies.  However, one cannot deny the beauty of blossoming Rhododendron, Azaleas, some recently planted Crepe Myrtle and the many wonderful Tulips and Daffodils.  We have all of the trimming schedules for Saturday a.m. after which I'll take the plunge and cut off and drain the outside faucets.  For some reason, that always seems so final.  Winter is, indeed, coming and things must be done.

FALL BRING CHILLY MORNINGS.  Sometimes it's nice to "just take the chill off" with a nice fire.

                                Lenn's Family Room & Fireplace

The bright spot in the Family Room is always a warming fire in the fireplace.  Just "take the chill off".

                                Halloween in Lovettsville

October also brings Halloween and it's always fun to see the imagine used to decorate homes.

Note the "headstones" in this yard and the cobwebs on the shrubs.  This home is always fun to watch at holiday times, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Halloween.

Hi Lenn, Enjoyed the photos. This fall because of all the rain we did not have a big color event here in the mountains. But it was pretty and we have had the fire place going a couple of nights

Lenn:  There's a home I like to watch at Christmas.  They put a motion sensor activated Santa in a playhouse.  When you drive by he waves and wishes Merry Christmas.  I noticed a sale sign in the yard of this festive family.  I hope Santa conveys.  If not, I'll miss him.

This has been the most beautiful fall....here in Ann Arbor Area. Not sure why maybe the cool summer.

It is raining today. So we will soon be bare of leaves.

Lenn,

Your colors are really fabulous. We do not have that here in Central Florida.

This year we have an unusual weather. After one cold front the summer has returned and we have record high temperature practically every day.

It was 89 yesterday, a tie with the record set in 2002. Our night temperatures are above 70. Absolutely wonderful weather. The commentator on the local TV called this month Hottober.

Charlie.  I don't know about Georgia, but around here I've noticed that we have much more colorful falls when we have lots of rainfall during the summer.  The trees are well hydrated and the leaves last longer and have time to "color" before being blown off.

Paul.  It certainly did.

Chris.  We have some memorable "Christmas" homes around here too.

Missy.  Our leaves are falling fast too.  Thanks goodness I don't have to rake.  I have mostly pines and little near my home.

Jon.  That's funny.  Let's face it, Central Florida is different.

Lenn:  I have yet to see "fall colors" as are described to me by friends who travel back east specifically to see the beauty of the fall colors.  Being a native California girl .... seeing those "country-living" photos really speaks to my heart ... who knows, I may leave California some day and experience a different life style.

Kathleen.  Not to worry.  In my area we don't have that spectacular ocean access and ocean view.  Of course, the Eastern Shore of MD and Va do but the Atlantic around here is not nearly as spectacular as the Pacific in CA.

Brenda.  What's the "scavenger hunt?"

Lenn, what beautiful fall photos!  I'm sure this is a wonderful time of year in Virginia.  I don't get to see much of the fall foliage here on Maui, so these photos are great reminders that fall is here :).

That Family Room looks like the perfect place to sit by the fire with a good book and watch the leaves falling outside. Our Fall colors here in NC are the best they've been in few years because of the extra rain.

I was planning to scroll right by this post. I was looking for your entry into the contest Bob's hosting. But first the colorful trees, and then that spectacular fireplace caught my eye. WOW! This house is gorgeous! Hope it sells fast. It's absolutely beautiful!

Loreena.  Fall is beautiful here this year.  I don't imagine you have these beautiful hardwoods in TX.

Lisa.  Well, we have fall colors but we don't have the beautiful blue ocean year round.

Lee & Carol.  I believe that's the reason ours were good this years too.

Lisa.  I'm planning to get to Bob's contest later today or tomorrow a.m. tme permitting.  What house for sale???  If you're talking about the Family Room with the fireplace going, that's my house and not for sale.  Of course, someone could make me an offer I couldn't refuse but I don't see that coming anytime soon.

Lenn, I agree with you, the gift of ample rain this year has added to the brilliance in colors the trees are giving us this autumn.  I'm enjoying the same beauty here outside of Philadelphia.  And thanks to your post I was reminded that I need to drain the garden hose and shut off the outside valve.  A final closure, another turn in the seasons....  (Gloria)
