A new Navy guided-missile destroyer, the Wayne E. Meyer is schedule to arrive at its new San Diego Naval Base home today. The ship is expected to arrive from Philadelphia where it was commissioned on 10-10. It is the 58th Arleigh Burke-class destroyer to be built at the Bath Iron Work in Maine, all named for major figures in Navy history.
Wayne E. Myer is names for the retired rear admiral who led the development of advance Aegis combat systems for the current Navy's classes of cruiser and destroyers.
