Springdale, Arkansas--Best Place to Raise a Family

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Market Pro Realty

Business Week magazine recently named Springdale as the best place in Arkansas to raise a family for the second year in a row.

It's nice to see Springdale recognized as it is frequently overlooked in favor of its better known neighbor--Fayetteville.

Springdale has its own charms, not the least of which is affordability. Also the NW Arkansas Naturals AAA minor league baseball team plays in a brand new stadium, and Rodeo of the Ozarks is now in its 66th year. There are parks, parades, an aquatic center, very nice library, good schools and jobs.

The city has been proactive in building three new east-west routes to move traffic more expeditiously across town while Interstate I-540 runs north towards Missouri and south to Fort Smith and I-40.

All this and a lot more make Springdale very livable.

Springdale is a beautiful city.  Don't let word get out too much or a whole lot of people will move in and change it!  I grew up in Little Rock.  Nice town too!

Thanks for your comment Bob. The weird thing is that there's a kind of snobbery among people from Fayetteville toward Springdale. But if you talk to someone from Springdale, especially those who work for the Springdale schools, the reverse is true. I guess it's all a matter of point of view. In any case, Springdale homes are much more affordable than those in Fayetteville.

As a real estate agent, you should know that homes in Springdale are "much more afforfable" than those in Fayetteville because they are worth much less in the market. The market, which shops carefully if not intelligently, doesn't give the same value to living in Springdale that it does to living in Fayetteville; as this is mostly the perception of newcomers to NW Arkansas, you can't really blame it on snobbishness on the part of Fayetteville residents. This is not to say that Springdale should want increases in value based on hype. The hype-induced influx of interlopers has nearly ruined Fayetteville-- and would have finished the job but for the recession. It should take ten years to populate the failed subdivisions now in some stage of development in Fayetteville, but we'll see.

Thanks for your comment David. There are actually not that many failed subdivisions in Fayetteville compared to Bentonville. I'm almost afraid to show homes in some of them--large subdivisions with hundreds of lots and only a few finished homes. I usually don't recommend those to my buyers.
