Poinsettias on Steroids!

I found three of these giant poinsettia bushes in a little church yard along the coast of Maui.   This was not the biggest bush, but it is certainly the most colorful.  Since we're not going to have a white Christmas, these amazing plants will just have to do for putting us in the holiday spirit!

Wow.... Is that plant in the ground? We cannot plant Poinsettias in the ground because of our weather here. It's the best symbol of Christmas for me.

I don't think I have EVER seen one so big?  Also, I don't think I have EVER seen one planted in the ground - just in pots here.

Pat - I saw poinsettias like this in Hawaii. Amazingly beautiful. Those would never survive our cold climate.

When we lived in Okinawa we had Poinsettias that made that one look like a puny shrub.  I was amazed as I had never seen them in anything but a foil covered pot before.

Wow, how did you  get one that big growing outside?

I didn't even know they could planted outside. I keep mine til February then give them to my house keeper as she has a green thumb and I don't.

Pat:  Great shot.  Have you been Russel Ray's blog?  He's got an entire history of the poinsettia.  It's more information than I ever thought possible to know about this plant.

Pat those are gorgeous, and so nice to see them in a natural environment -- rather than choking to death in my house! LOL!!  Have a wonderful Christmas in Hawaii!

Patricia, that's a stunning plant!  I used to always plant my pointsettias outside after the holidays, they would bloom the next year but hardly ever in time for Christmas.  Hope you had a merry Christmas!

Gorgeous, I decorate my home with these flowers because they are so beautiful and still have some now. I would love to be in Hawaii and see them in full bloom. Once,  on the big island, I saw a snapshot somewhere along the highway of poinsettas blooming ~ just beautiful. I was in Hawaii on this date four years ago though ~ anniversary =)
