Do You Sometimes Feel Like Your Just Standing Still?

Traffic at the Springfield Interchange in Northern VAIf you live in Northern Virginia and you are sitting still then it could be because we have lots of traffic.  In fact a recent study shows a significant portion of the Northern Virginia area ranks in the top 25 locales for traffic.

# 7-Washington, D.C
#9-Alexandria, Va
#13-Fairfax County, Va
#22-Arlington, Va

With the completion of the Springfield Interchange and the Wilson Bridge Project drivers were expecting to see significant improvement in their commute times.  However now the Tyson's Corner improvements, expansion of the Fairfax County Parkway and HOT lanes have slowed commuters down again.

You don't have to be stuck in traffic in Northern Virginia.  With the metro rail system, VRE, commuter bus  routes and slug lines chances are you have another option.  If you are relocating to the area make sure you check the commuting options from your top choice neighborhoods.  You might be surprised to find out that you can leave your car at home all week long and have a smirk on your face as you speed past all of the drivers who are at a dead standstill.

Cindy, I experienced some homegrown traffic today as a matter of fact.  The Tysons area with the Mall shopping coupled with the construction is a real treat.

Craig-I had a client suggest that we should meet in the Tysons Corner area tomorrow.  Ahhh polite refusal on my part.  Have a great holiday!

Dan-yes I took the picture while I was sitting in traffic on my way to my Broker Continuing Education classes.  I'm a big fan of public transportation in our area and if I'm headed into DC for work or play my first choice is to the take the metro.

Cindy - Sitting still is never fun.  I know traffic where you are can be a nightmare (used to live in Rossyln).  You are so right regarding the public transportation.   I wish the Philadelphia public transportation compared to DC.  I love the DC metro !

Christopher & Stephanie-I've watched this area go from rural to suburban and now we are playing catch up with our public transportation system.  It is still a surprise that they built Dulles Airport and then didn't make an easy way for travelors to get there other than driving.

Cindy,  I agree public transportation makes commuting much less stressful.  In my experience, highway expansions are completed about the time they are already over capacity.

Carra-the photo I took while sitting at the Springfield Interchange is proof of that statement,  Seven years of constructions multiple overpasses, ramps and additional lanes and wham there I sit at rush hour, not moving.

Wendy-most major cities get to deal with gridlock in some form or another.  An audio book is a great suggestion.  Time to hit the libraray again.
