Chicago's at it Again - Snow Days Chicago is on its Way!

Just when you thought it was safe to go out in the cold again, Snow Days Chicago arrives! This great winter festival, held on Michigan Avenue in Grant Park, is in action on January 29th, 30th and 31st, 2010. Subject to change of course, in case of, well, bad weather! 

In spite of the fact that each winter Chicago, Glenview and surrounding areas usually get plenty of natural white fluff, the powers-that-be have determined that man-made snow is what they'll use for the snow sculpting competition during the festival. Last year 15 fantabulous snow sculptures were created by teams from across the U.S. and even Mexico. Spectators are encouraged to vote for their favorite and the winner is announced towards the end of the festivities. 

But professional sculptors are not the only ones working on their snow sculpture exhibits. Many area high schools also form sculpting teams and create unique snow sculptures of their own. There are already at least 12 teams planning projects for this year's festival and all will be on exhibit. 

Snow Days Chicago is a free event. But be sure to come prepared to buy a hot drink since January in Chicago can be brisk! Food is also available for those who are able to thaw their mouths out enough to chew! Snowboarding demonstrations and a competition and dog sledding demonstrations and racing are also part of the Snow Days. So in spite of the cold, it's a fun weekend for festival-goers.
