What a difference.  DAY and NIGHT

My only excuse is that I didn't know any better...

I joined realestate.com.  they had a 6 ms commitment. It was associated with point 2 agent ( no problem)

it was associated with Lending tree ( problem) and biggest problem was they gave me nothing but trouble.

I tried to cancel..as no leads went anywhere- I actually think they were all false...all they had to do is just send some junk over to have me work on thinking it could be alead...

They said no,,you cannot cancel they billed my credit card faithfully

The last of the 6 ms finally here...and they sent another invoice.

I called foul. They said too bad we already sent you the invoice now you have to pay.

Then...they tried to hit my checking account. (I had paid my supposedly last of the 6 ms with check) I called the bank and cancelled the check.

They have sent a collections call to me...and want to take 399 and make it 529. But they are willing to just settle for the 399.  The collections person told me ( I actually liked his honesty to me) he said that If I ever have a situation that they say I can't cancel...just ask them what the cancellation payoff is...there is one...

I didn't know then but want to alert everyone.

I have heard of plenty of places that do try and hold us hostage...

Don't you have an agreement that you signed? or emails proving that it is 6 months or something? I have gotten to the point where I JUST SAY NO.  To everyone. Always.  Good luck

Wow, what a tangled web. I can tell you that when I buy anything where there is a term I use my AE card. I am not advertising for AE.

The reason is that they will step in the middle of issues like this and credit me back the amount and contact the company for me.

I tend to need them about once every other year and it helps.

Best of luck to you, Charles

Thanks for the warning!  I don't do either Realtor.com or realestate.com.  Online advertising is an essential ingredient in my secret sauce - i.e., my marketing plan - but I don't generally go for the expensive ones.  In fact, free is good!

That increase from $399 to $529, may be one of those details in the agreement they make you "agree to", that no one ever bothers to read... it scares me every time I do that!

Try to find the time to make a written report to the BBB and the State Attorney General Consumer Protection Commission or whatever it is called.

Who knows.  Someone just might check them out before falling into the same trap.

How awful for you!  It's bad enough to waste money on non productive leads, but to have to waste time straightening things like this out adds insult to outrage!

I've been pretty skeptical about them. Your post confirms it even more. Thanks.

Wow that sounds like one of the nastiest ones I have heard of.  What kind of answer is too bad we already sent you the invoice now you have to pay.  That is just nonsense.

I am having a similar problem with a hosting service. I suggest that you resquest, no DEMAND in writting from the collection co. a complete accounting of all transactions. If they cannot/will not provide this, IF they take you to small claims court, you can show the judge that they failed to comply with your simple request for an accounting.

This worked for me in the past, hope it does the same for you.

Holly $%^  can not believe the audacity of them trying to suck you in again especially after you were clearly unhappy with the service. I think you should post a public blog about them and their unprofessional ways. Thanks for the heads up and I for one would not let this one die silently.

Thank you for sharing this story!  Many of these companies treat agents the same way!  I reccieve loads of calls and emails from agents taht have signed up wiht exclusive territories.  Some of them charge several hundred dollars a month!  All bogus, and no cancellations allowed!
