Now is the time to take on some home improvement projects that could lead to tax incentives. President Barack Obama recently signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Consumers are entitled to new incentives to eliminate inefficient systems and/or appliances, many of which effect our comfort and pocketbooks.
This stimulus bill extended the tax credits for home improvemnts that would have expired in 2007. The bill has been extended through 2010 and has been expanded. The old cap was 10 per cent of the costs and was capped at $500. It is now 30% tax credit with a lifetime cap of $1500.
There are many quirks and deadlines associated with what does and does not meet the specific guidelines. So be careful to see exactly what qualifies.
