After, I wrote a post Do we trust the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to inform their flock on Immigration Reform???? I received the below video and was totally blown away. I love hearing from a Priest who gets it. I hope you will take the time to listen and absorb his message. And then please read the story below about my family history and my Uncle who invented the first Shrimp Peeling Machine.
"Father Patrick J. Bascio, a Catholic priest, discusses why illegal immigration into the United States is fundamentally immoral. Illegal immigration penalizes less developed countries such as Mexico that are sources of illegal aliens who sneak into United States and evade capture at our borders. Illegal immigration penalizes American workers who suffer job loss. Illegal immigration penalizes American society and culture and future generations of Americans."
I had a comment on my post Why be Catholic, with all the corruption in the Catholic Church?? Updated!! from a fellow Catholic who is on the liberal side of the pew. Her question sparked a thought process I want to share with you. The question I was asked was......
"Alice, I clicked on the Matthew Warner link, which took me to an article that featured Bill O'Reilly. He was snarking about giving money from the affluent to the poor.
It immediately reminded me of what Christ told the rich man... not "suggested", but told him: "Go, sell all you have, and give it to the poor."
So... who is right ? Christ... or Matthew Warner and Bill O'Reilly ? Just curious."
My answer is a true Moral Catholic man or women uses their God given talents to succeed in their calling in life just as my Grandfather and Uncle JM did.
My grandfather owned a shrimp plant in Louisiana. They use to pay the shrimp peeler's buy the bucket. Of course you would get huge shrimp because they were easier to peel and heavier. One day my grandfather told my Uncle if you want to get rich some day invent a machine that will peel these shrimp. Well I'll let you watch the video on this page to hear the story.
What I know from my own experience is that if my Grandfather and Uncle lived a Catholic life like my "Liberal Progressive Catholic" friend suggests in her question above thousands and thousands of people would not have been employed in the Louisiana shrimping industry. This shrimp peeling machine actually gave other countries a whole Shrimping Industry because through his invention the size of the shrimp did not matter.
To me a true moral Catholic is one like those in my family who used their God given talents to give others dignity through employment.
As my Mother asked me "what is moral about giving up everything and becoming dependent on others."
