No! Seriously! The definition of "Insanity" is attempting to please ALL of the people ALL of the time. #in

Are you a people pleaser?

Do you just LOVE doing whatever it takes to "make people happy"?

Does it literally drive you crazy when you can't seem to please someone?

Do you start wondering what's wrong with you?

Have that feeling you've lost your People Pleasing powers?

I'm going to do my best to let you let yourself off the hook a bit by suggesting that there might actually be people in this world who are not very happy people (for whatever reason) and that there may be NOTHING you can do to satisfy them.

Invest your "people pleaser" skills in people who are pleasable!

The good news is that most people ARE pleasable.

It's those few who are not who can spoil the brew.

So . . .

What do you do about these unpleasables?

Seth Godin wrote a brilliant answer to this oh-so-complicated question here:

in which he ends with this rare wisdom: "Firing the customers you can't possibly please gives you the bandwidth and resources to coddle the ones that truly deserve your attention and repay you with referrals, applause and loyalty."

I (and Seth) are just sayin'

Best,

b

Thanks for that post!  We do all want to please but there ARE those folks out there who CHOOSE to be difficult and they are mostly just unhappy!

Ah, Barry, what timing!! I just hung up with an "unpleasable" person...not a client...but another agent that I'm working with. ('Nuff said),

I am, by nature, a people pleaser...I am truly happier when everyone's happy...but I'm no doormat...and I will be a sweet mama bear (grrrr!) for my clients. :)

I love a good qoute,

do not look at firing a client you cannot possibly please as a firing,   look at it as a celebration for ice cream.

Helps you cool down

Pleasing people isn't our job.  Real estate brokerage is our job.  When we do a good job, folks are going to be pleased, OR NOT.  Don't forget, some folks find being pleased unpleasant.

If folks want to be pleased, they need to go to the circus or to a carnival.

Or, Baskin Robins.

I like Seth's quote, and have found that to be true many times.  Unfortunately, I am a slow learner and still try to please almost everyone.  I am getting better, though.

Barry - I was in the business for several years before I understood that not all customers are good for me. Now some of my friends think I have this down to a science, and I usually tell the client that it will happen if they don't live up to their side of the agreement. It's just business.
