Hi everybody
The Census Bureau will be ramping up in March and April.
They will be sending agents out to knock on the doors of people that have not completed and mailed back the forms that were mailed earlier.
Here are some very important guidelines to follow when somebody knocks on your door purporting to be from the Census Bureau.
· US Census workers that are going door to door will have a badge, a handheld device, a Census Bureau canvas bag, and a confidentiality notice. Ask to see their identification and badge before answering any questions.
· Don’t invite anyone you don’t know into your home, even if they are a Census worker. They are not supposed to be doing their business from inside your home so beware of anyone who wants to come into your home.
· Do not give out any private information like social security numbers, credit cards or banking information; it is not needed for the Census.
· The only information that is required for you to give out is the number of people living at your address.
· Questions that ask for basic financial information—like salary range—are not mandatory to answer.
· If anyone asks for your social security, bank account, or credit card numbers, or for a donation, that person is not with the Census Bureau.
· The Census Bureau has decided not to work with ACORN on the 2010 Census, so do not give any information to an ACORN worker.
· The Census Bureau will be contacting people by mail, phone, or in person, but never by e-mail. If you receive an email that says it is from the Census Bureau do not open it or any attachments/links that come with it.
And don't give anyone your email address either.
Please feel free to share this information with family and friends so that they can be safe during the 2010 Census
