It rained like the dickens all afternoon! I drove out to Ryan Airfield to see a new airplane.

Driving home from Ryan Airfield, I saw Janice Kauffman's Tierra Antigua Realty Sign at the guardhouse entrance to Tucson Estates II.

You already know how I feel about Tucson Estates II if you're a regular reader of my blog. My Darlin' and I chose this mountain foothills community in 1998, and we love being surrounded on three sides of this green desert community by Tucson Mountain Park.

1951 S Diamond D Drive, Tucson, AZ is tucked away at the northwest corner of the community. The owner and the builder collaborated to create an exquisite gem of a home. I'm not going to list the features; click the link for that information. It's setting is one of a kind.

What I want to convey with my photos is the sense of place that envelopes you when you walk into this home. On a day like this, I want to stretch out on that leather couch, with a fire crackling in that magnificent beehive fireplace!

Quest Kodiak, STOL, turbine engine Bill,

The Quest Kodiak is a turbine powered prop plane designed specifically for Missionary Aviation. It is a STOL (short take off and landing) aircraft with a huge payload for its size of 1,500 to 2,000 lbs on top of full fuel and pilot weight.

I've read about the Quest. This is the first I've seen, I'm shocked!

Missionaries in such a sexy plane, if they need a turboprop they belong in a turbine Beaver. >:)

Have you seen the light weight jeep like thing with the supported powered parachut? Nothing sexy, but utiltiaren and cheap to buy and fly.

Here's the info. This plane has a huge cargo area, runs on jet fuel (available world wide, and much cheaper than avgas) and costs half to operate when compared to anything else that can get in and out of short dirt runways.

It's service ceiling allows it to operate in high mountain airstrips the DeHavilland Beaver can't get to; the useful load is 25% greater, landing speed is much lower, etc.

It is a sexy airplane, though, isn't it? LOL

They are, aren't they? There's something calming about this room, as the first commenter noticed, and I think it has to do with the view as much as the interior of the room.

The outfit who displayed the airplane at Ryan Field is Missionary Aviation Fellowship, and their pilots help people all over the world. When I was a kid in South America's rainforest, MAF got us in and out.
