by Leander McClain, Realtor ~ www.NJSouthRealEstate.com

I started out smoking cigars with the guys just to look cool and fit in. My humidor contained a selection of cigars…..but I didn’t really know much about cigars. Recently, I have gotten serious about my cigar smoking. I began researching cigars and taking notes after I experience each cigar. As a result, my collection has grown and I needed to purchase a second larger humidor.

At this point, most of the Realtors are asking…..Leander, what does this have to do with selling homes? I am glad you asked.

First of all, I needed a decent humidor. Since cigar smoking is a hobby for me, I really didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a new humidor. So I did what we Realtors do when faced with a problem. I asked the question WWGD (What Would Google Do)? I Googled Cheap Cigar Humidors. One of the top results was a website www.cheaphumidors.com. This is the first lesson for Realtors.

Realtor Lesson # 1 – You must rank high in a Google Search

If you don’t rank high, consumers will never find you. ActiveRain University has presented some great webinars on hyperlocal content and Search Engine Optimization. Oh and by the way, these are my favorite price FREE.

Usually, I figure that the top results in Google are the big guys and they….the ones who spend the most cashola. I checked out a few sites and ended up back at www.cheaphumidors.com .

Upon entering the site….I was offered a free e-book (The Beginners Guide to Cigar Smoking). The free e-book was certainly something I would have paid for. It gave me the history of cigars, told me why I should & shouldn't smoke cigars, had tips on cigar smoking, lighting, storage, etc. E-books are easy to create and publish. Consider publishing a book or two for your potential clients.

Realtor Lesson #2 - Realtors, provide your clients with something of value for FREERealtor Selling Home

Too many Realtors are hung up on “It’s all about me marketing”. They sound like my favorite boxer Muhammad Ali – I am the greatest Realtor alive, I sell homes, Let me sell your house, I am a million dollar Realtor, I am the best Realtor, I,I,I,I, me,me,me,me. Ninety percent (90%) of our customers know that they will use a Realtor when they either buy a home or sell a home. When customers come to your website, they just want to get information. They can read about how great you are later.

I will finish my lessons in Part II of Cigar Humidors, Selling Homes & Realtors

Leander: Great point about ranking on the internet- If people can't find you, they're not going to become your clients!  And save me a Macanudo.  :)

Nice tie in Leander. To better our service, all we need to do is think about how we search for things when we're in the market for a product or service.

Leander, what a great way to stress the importance of being found!  How clever of CheapHumidors to not only come up high in Google juice but also know how to keep their customers!  I'll bet they'll like this post when their Google alert gets them the word...
