***Trains in Oklahoma -- May 2010 -- Part 1***
These pictures were taken near Quinlan, Oklahoma in late May, 2010. This picture was taken from a bridge that allowed me to get a couple of great pictures of multiple engines and some of the freight cars as well.
This train was stopped further down the tracks from the last shot, he was waiting for another train to pass before he could go. The trains on this stretch of track had to share a single track because of the rail road construction going on.
Here are two of the construction machines that take out the old rail road ties and replace them with the new concrete ties. There is also a machine that removes the anchor pieces (I think they called them rail road ties) and one that puts new anchor pieces down.
The workers were on break when I took these photos, so I don't have a picture of them in operation.
Further down the tracks is a place with some beautiful scenery. The mesa behind the train has lots of great layers of red rocks protruding from the rocks. The one to the far right could be carved into a sphinx easily and made into a tourist attraction.
A close up of the front of a very long freight train in Oklahoma.
