A new way to get rid of junk

By

I just saw a new way to get rid of junk.  I'm no Billy Mays (may he rest in peace), and I'm not getting any benefit from this.  I just think it's a cool idea.

In the real estate business, we always have homes that need cleaning out.  Perhaps it's an estate house.  Or elderly seller's with decades of junk.  Or plain old sloppy people.  It you're like me, you have a Dumpster company on speed dial.  And that can be expensive for either your clients or you!

Waste Management is offering a new service called Bagster - Dumpster in a Bag.  You go to a store like the Home Depot, Ace Hardware, or even on-line at Amazon.  You buy the bag for around $30.

Take it home, unfold it, and fill it with up to 3,300 pounds of junk.  Yes, there are some limitations.  Not all areas accept yard waste.  Toxic or hazardous is a no-no. This includes paint, oil, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs or ballasts, appliances, electronics, food waste, railroad ties, tires, medical waste, pesticides or chemicals.

When it's full, call Waste Management, and they come pick it up.  Pick up costs vary by area, and runs about $120 to $150.  If you've ever rented a traditional Dumpster, you know that this is a pretty good deal!  You can go on the Bagster web site to see if your area is currently serviced.

I'm always looking for interesting ideas to suggest to my clients.  And this one looks like a winner!

Richard, I never heard or bagster..... what a great way to get rid of all that "stuff" so many homeowners have when getting ready to sell.  I will definitely have to check out whether or not they are available in our area.

Thank you for the post.

Richard, At first I thought it was a joke...  but then realized it really is a neat idea.  I'll pass this on to Lee ~ would be an easy way to detrash some of his REO's!

Pamela - It does look kind of weird at first -- but all the reviews I have read have been very positive.  And (at least in this area) it's about half the price of a traditional Dumpster.
