Fast Easy (Free!) Image Resizing

By
Real Estate Agent with Select Realty Professionals

I'm embarrassed to admit this, but the way I used to process my photos was to upload them to Picnik, crop or resize them, add text to give them a watermark (or just skip that step since it was really too much trouble), then download them back into the right folder.

VSO Image ResizerI was pretty sure there had to be an easier way so I went looking and found VSO Image Resizer. It's one of my new favorite tools now. Not only can you resize, you can also add an uber customizable watermark, & save the photo to a pre-determined location. All this in a batch or as an individual image. And if you have a certain size and process that you use often, you can save that as a pre-set profile.

Did I mention that it's free? Especially since I've been working on Chattanooga Exposed, it's been a huge time saver to be able to take all the photos that I'm thinking about using, putting them through VSO IR and saving copies to a special folder. When I want to post one, I just go to that folder, pick it out bada boom, bada bing, done & done. And since it's a program you install on your computer, there's no more of this waiting-to-upload-or-download-big-files stuff (my one criticism of Picnik).

One caveat: You don't get a preview of what the finished product is going to be. Always use the "Create Copies" option so that you don't overwrite an image with something you don't want!

Julia, I have another program I use to resize, but this looks like a winner. I will check it out!

Don't tell anyone, but I just use the Microsoft Picture editor. It did not occur to me that there were better options.

Fast, easy, and free are always good.

Hi Julia ~ Looks like something worth checking out. Up to now I've also been using Microsoft picture editor to resize and Ifanview to convert. The watermark step is something I've chosen to ignore for time reasons. Combining steps is good and I love trying out new stuff, so I'll give this a whirl.Thanks.

I chose VSO when I bought a new Windows Vista computer early last year because my old XP image resizers didn't work under Vista.
