I have to say that I love BNI (Business Networking International) and we are proud members of 3 local BNI groups in Westchester county (in White Plains and Pleasantville).
At first, I was dreading those weekly 7am meetings, but I have to tell you that even though I'm not a morning person, these people are friendly and funny and they definitely keep my attention. And, of course the breakfast and coffee don't hurt either (I love when it's French toast week at Jean Jacques).
For those not familiar w/ BNI, it's a networking group of non-competing professions that try to find referrals for each other. Most of the members have used the members services or learn about them from testimonials from those that have. You really get to know people on both personal and professional basis. I like it because it's structured so I feel more comfortable there than the typical wine & cheese parties (which I do, too).
Not only has this helped my business directly from referrals, but also I've learned a lot about different ways to market and grow my business. I've met people from many BNI chapters as I sub often.
If you are considering joining a group, I'd highly encourage you to do this. You can attend 2 free meetings to see if this is right for you and you can visit multiple chapters until you find the one you think is best for you/your business.
