BNI has been a great business builder for me

I have to say that I love BNI (Business Networking International) and we are proud members of 3 local BNI groups in Westchester county (in White Plains and Pleasantville).

At first, I was dreading those weekly 7am meetings, but I have to tell you that even though I'm not a morning person, these people are friendly and funny and they definitely keep my attention.  And, of course the breakfast and coffee don't hurt either (I love when it's French toast week at Jean Jacques).

For those not familiar w/ BNI, it's a networking group of non-competing professions that try to find referrals for each other.  Most of the members have used the members services or learn about them from testimonials from those that have.  You really get to know people on both personal and professional basis.  I like it because it's structured so I feel more comfortable there than the typical wine & cheese parties (which I do, too).

Not only has this helped my business directly from referrals, but also I've learned a lot about different ways to market and grow my business.  I've met people from many BNI chapters as I sub often.

If you are considering joining a group, I'd highly encourage you to do this.  You can attend 2 free meetings to see if this is right for you and you can visit multiple chapters until you find the one you think is best for you/your business.

These groups are powerful if there are done right. Most groups have a Realtor already. You almost have to start you own group!!

Pat - You are right.  Most groups do have a realtor.  Recently, near us, there have been a couple of openings, so you need to keep your eyes open.

James and William - Glad I was able to share something new w/ you.

Debbie, I've done a couple of those 7AM meetings - there are a killer!  Especially when you don't sleep well the night before.  Happens more often than not.  :-(

I am not really up to starting my own group at this point, so I guess I will have to wait for an opportune time to take advantage of an already existing group.  We have so many Realtors in our area!  LOL

Sandy - Yes, so true, so many realtors in our area.  Last year I joined Women's Council of Realtors in Westchester which has been great.  I've learned a ton.

Oh, and yes, hard to get up for the 7am mtgs.  But, once I started doing it, it became easy/fun.

I belong to some networking groups but not any BNI groups. They work.
