Going COLD TURKEY

By
Real Estate Agent with McLeRoy Realty Associates, Inc. 209657

My "cold turkey" was not from nicotine but from "communication".  When I first signed up to go on this Jamaican missionary trip with my church, I had no idea what to expect. I have been a REALTOR 11 years now and my cellphone has ALWAYS been a part of me. I'm serious! I don't even go to the restroom without carrying it with me...lol.

So, the thought of no cellphone, laptop or communication with my clients for 8 WHOLE days just seemed unheard of. Guess what? I did it! And, I survived! Reflecting back...it was actually a "break" from the stress. We were so busy those days that the time just flew by! I even put my phone on silent once I got home Saturday so I could "crash" without the ringing or hum of the vibration. I also survived that! ;-)

Please...don't think I just left my clients high & dry while I was gone. I left a "detailed" (those that know me will get a laugh from this) list with names, contact numbers and the status of each transaction with my broker. Anything that came up was handled by her and I am thankful for a broker that was willing to deal with my "hurdles" while I was away.

I am a licensed REALTOR® from Pike County located about 45 miles south of Atlanta and considered MetroAtlanta.  I assist buyers/sellers and strive to make the transaction as smooth as can be.  I believe that it is a TEAM EFFORT with buyer/seller, lender, attorney and myself.  Communication is the key!

Alicia, Good for you. I wonder what I ever did before I tied my cell around my neck. I actually remember living without one ... and still communicating with everyone. But, that was in the last century!

Alice, my wife tries to get me to hang mine up when I get home for work and on weekends but it is hard to do that. Congrats on this accomplishment:)

Linda, Isn't it funny how we "think" life will come to a complete stop if we don't have them?  I must really give tribute to God & my broker for making this "easy" for me!

Ginevra, Well, truth is...not really a "vacation".  Went on a missions trip with 38 other people from my church.  Our last day, Friday, was our "fun time"...rest of the time we were doing missionary work.  Found out about the 2nd day of being "communication free" that I could loosen up some and def found out when I returned....life went on without me! LOL  P.S. I HAVE spent last 2 days being BUSY though :-)

Mike, Yes, I AGREE it is Hard to do that however these last couple years I have learned it's good to give myself "me time".  Actually makes for a better "productive" me! Try it! ;-)

Hard to do, but we do what we gotta.  I'd love to read about your mission trip and see photos... another blog perhaps?  It's been a while since I've done that sort of thing and would love to do more of it in the future.  And glad you also gave yourself a little me time when you got home before you were at it again.
