Mid-Century Modern - Everything Old Is New Again

A client of mine is selling his condo that was decorated over 30 years ago.

The interior is an interesting mix of mid-century modern and 1980's gaudiness. It's certainly colorful and bold, but it works. The furniture, light-fixtures, wallpaper and window coverings are all in great, as-new condition.

Everone who see the condo is impressed with the decor. Several prospects have even requested that my client sell the furniture.

What most people are suprised to hear, is that my Seller is 90 years old.

I really like that metal wall sculpture & the light fixture but I have to say that I could do without that wallpaper. I had something just like it in my bathroom when I was in high school. Those were the days!

What an interesting article. You're absolutely right. When I go to my local antique or vintage markets. Everything I see, i.e. lamps, pillows, or chairs, I can find very similar ones in Crate and Barrel. I buy some of these pieces and incorporate them in my staged homes. It's lots of fun.

There was a listing here that looked right out of a Rock Hudson/Doris Day movie. People were impressed. Perfectly preserved. Funny how the cycle of style is circular.

Goodness, me -- I do believe I had the very same wallpaper in my foyer!  Very interesting and in extremely excellent condition it appears.  What fun!

Julie - I have my eye on that metal wall sculpture. I'd love to see it on my patio.

Alyce - I like clean, crisp minimalism.

Cynthia - So far, good reactions, but no offers yet.

David - I personally prefer glass tile in bathrooms, but I'm seeing more and more wallpaper being used.

Shirin - Crate & Barrel, Williams Sonoma and many other are replicating much of the vintage styles.

Philip - Quite a few people say the condo I live in looks like it's from a Rock Hudson/Doris Day movie: It's a mid-century courtyard building with a big patio and lots of glass.

Excuse our 22lb cat (Niko) who wouldn't move out of the pic.

Did you get the cat to match the furniture or the furniture to match the cat?

Either way, it works far better than my brindle dog currently curled up on the back of my beige-y sofa. Maybe I should have gone for the leopard print instead.

Awesome. There are so few examples of mid century still intact. Here is one for the purist.
